I still wish there was going to be a Linux version...... I'll just have to hope WINE/yabridge works for it.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Sway will also be a must buy for anyone who has not yet owned an SY/TG series instrument!
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Keeping in mind that the whole SWAY VSTi project is carried by a single person,
a little sorry that it is interested,
but i hope Sheaf is going well...

Halion 7 is supposed to cover the SY99/77/FS1R area as well…

Halion 7 ? This is a sampler and maybe as TGX-99 will it loads some rompler...

Yup Halion 7 is a sampler but can also do FM, spectral, wavetable, virtual analog and granular synthesiscslevine wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 8:17 am Halion 7 ? This is a sampler and maybe as TGX-99 will it loads some rompler...

Cover the synthesis techniques... yes, up to an extent (it will still lack the RCM feature). But "emulate"... NOTj Shredder wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 6:36 am Halion 7 is supposed to cover the SY99/77/FS1R area as well…
Following what you said, any modern subtractive synth covers ANY of the glorified synths of the past (thew Moogs, the Prophets, the Oberheims, the Jupiters, The CS, etc.) Why emulate those, then?

I've heard verry good things about halion , but can you modulate 0 Hz operator with an awm element ?Tj Shredder wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 6:36 am Halion 7 is supposed to cover the SY99/77/FS1R area as well…
For the moment My favourites are Tranzistow (brilliant in every possible department ) , ops-7 and self brewed reaktor stuff ( when scaled accordingly can sound remarkebly close to the real deal )

HALion7 which I love has a slightly modified version FM-X which Yamaha's engineers ported over from Montage. FM-X is heavily based on the 8 operator FM Synthesis Engine that was on the Yamaha FS1R rack unit from the late 1990sTj Shredder wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 6:36 am Halion 7 is supposed to cover the SY99/77/FS1R area as well…
It got expanded from the Montage version and included extra waveforms that come from both the TX81Z and the SY99. There are a few other minor differences as well that may it may not be important to you depending on what you want to do. Most of those are related to the underlying structure of how the Synth Engines in both products fit into the ecosystem of either Montage or HALion7 regarding things like modulation and effects
(I own both the Montage Hardware and Plugin, and HALion7 FWIW)
The SY77/SY99 did have a few tricks up it's sleeve that FM-X doesn't have. (I have owned all of the Yamaha FM Synths at one point or another and know them all very well)
Those things like the ability to use AWM samples as a modulation source or Zero Hz operators may it may not matter to you. If they do this is where a plugin like SWAY can fill that gap
For the life of me I don't understand why Yamaha doesn't improve FM-X so that it works with the entire legacy of Yamaha FM Synths. The kind of do this with HALion7 with the DX7 but not at all on Montage
It seems like it would be a pretty simple matter to have DX7 mode and only have the operators use sine waves and only have 6 operators and be able to read DX7 Sysex, same with DX100, TX81Z, FB01, SY/TG77, SY/TG99, TG33, and SY22
Playing the waveforms from each and even having the original PCM samples available should be easy. The old effects might be a different story but they could get pretty close

No it's essentially the FM-X engine from Montage which is essentially the FM engine from FS1R without the formant stuff with a few extra tricksgentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 5:23 pmI've heard verry good things about halion , but can you modulate 0 Hz operator with an awm element ?Tj Shredder wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 6:36 am Halion 7 is supposed to cover the SY99/77/FS1R area as well…

It's fantastic in its own and fits well into my arsenal of other FM plugins. I still use Plogue's OPS7, and Synclavier V for other flavors of FM
I am greatly looking forward to adding SWAY to my arsenal and wish Korg would make standalone MOD-7 plugin from Korg Oasys/Kronos

Sway may end up being the most advanced FM VST available. Halion 7 has some great FM capabilities but does not create patches in the same way as a hardware SY/TG with its RCM Modulation. Sway will definitely set itself apart from all other FM VST's.

That's RCM, as I mentioned before.IvyBirds wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 7:17 pm The SY77/SY99 did have a few tricks up it's sleeve that FM-X doesn't have. (I have owned all of the Yamaha FM Synths at one point or another and know them all very well)

I 100% agree with you. Especially because those extra-miles don't seem difficult at all, and they would improve significantly the perceived value of HALion for those that owned the mentioned instruments (which means... A LOT OF PEOPLE)For the life of me I don't understand why Yamaha doesn't improve FM-X so that it works with the entire legacy of Yamaha FM Synths.
