Most Clap plugins are just compiled to the format and dont deliver the specific creative advantagessteffe wrote: Sat Apr 11, 2026 9:44 am Why advertise it as clap if it not really supporting the clap advantages? Is there an advantage to use the clap over VST or AU?

I'd like J8X to be as faithful to the JX-8P as possible, and then he can add an "advanced" panel, or whatever, with optional (and modern) behavior, like in PG-8X:

Don’t want to derail the discussion but I don’t think the Softube ones are that “exact” anyway… Corners still get cut here and there, sometimes quite noticeable.zvenx wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 9:58 pm He made choices to make the best version of the jx-8p he could.
Look at softube, who make the exact things with all the limitations (well except the model 77) and people complain all the time about that.
And mind you this synth is $69 not a $199 synth..
I am so glad I am not Patrick.

But they definitely sound gorgeous and are very useful in the music settings.

The irony of calling it "Patrick's baby" and then now harassing him to do what you want.

To be fair, the OP isn't the one doing the "harassing".TechHaus wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 6:45 am The irony of calling it "Patrick's baby" and then now harassing him to do what you want.![]()

Patrick isn't on KVR, so he can't be "harassed" here. And discussing where TAL synths fail to be faithful to the original hardware is no more "harassment" than discussing where Arturia fails to be faithful to the original hardware. And that is one of KVR's favorite pastimes.

Question is, are we certain now whether the “failed to be faithful” things people talk about lie in hardware tolerance, or it’s so obvious that people easily notice them in a blind test?

We know that there are two deliberate choices that Patrick made to knowingly deviate from the JX-8P architecture. One is the limiter in the chorus, the other is the UNISON mode routing.
These are not mere tolerances.

Is the limiter in the chorus exposed on the control surface or it’s just something inside the circuit?
If it’s exposed as a fader or knob but not modeled then it’s not faithful modeling. If it’s only internal in the signal line, one can well model the chorus behavior altogether without explicitly modeling the limiter itself, and it would still remain a faithful as long as the overall behavior produces results within hardware tolerance.

I haven't spoken to him about it so I don't know if that means he went back to the J8-X chorus.Version 1.0.5 / 09.04.2026
Possible click with voice stealing and VCA dynamic enabled fixed.

Patrick knows about the limiter and although he never explicitly said "I've got a limiter in J8X" it sounds like he has it in there because of the possible spikes from DCO2, which he mentioned in an email.
What I am questioning though is if the behavior of the chorus + limiter is modeled correctly. From how I understand it, to say that the limiter is on the dry signal is somewhat inaccurate. If you take a raw DCO and leave the chorus off, it does not go through the limiter and the LPF. However things change when you engage the chorus. The signal gets split - one side stays relatively dry, and the other goes through the chorus circuit. The signal that goes through the chorus first gets limited and then LPFd. The BBD chorus itself is LPFd and HPFd, so now you have a full bandwidth raw signal being blended with a band limited, less bassy, less high (thus darker) chorused signal. The dry, cleaner, more transient signal is supposed to stay dominant while the softer, chorused signal sort of blooms around it. This is one of the reasons why the JX-8P is still snappy with the chorus on. And I think the chorus is possibly causing smeared transients on the J8X - I’m wondering if the chorus path might be a bit too full-range, too present, or not shaped dynamically the same way as the hardware.
Anyway, he's looking into it.
