I thought for $50 there was nothing really to lose. I sat and listened to the introductory bank on YouTube and went out and spent the cash on a bottle of Wild Turkey. I'm really not hearing anything new in this at all. Not knocking Rob's work but the massive banks of presets in his synths are really starting to sound very recycled from release to release. There really is a lot of very generic sounds in this....so time to go have a drink =D

Good news. They're working on a light UI version (no word on release, I think it might be a little while still... like with the next point release [so give time for bug fixes and extra patches]). This is currently just a mock-up (so it's a bit rough!), but I think people will be happier about this than the super dark UI (I kinda don't mind the dark UI now that I've gone through beta etc, but this white-ish one... sxc 8) ).

That new GUI looks great!

I'm really liking Predator II some really nice features have been added. I think theirs a decent sound improvement. Nothing huge, but still very welcome.

I would love an albino like skin, but I would much prefer a fully vector gui. I don't know why more companies aren't doing this already. Rob also mentioned an update coming to predator 1, anyone care to tell what that entails?

...I can't say a lot about the programming side of things, but if you're doing just a "flat" design, then it's not a big problem. It could be if you're introducing "perspective", light and texture and their interaction with each other. A lot of graphic artists paint their graphics "manually" (at least parts of it) and thus you're working with fixed pixels, whereas creating every graphical aspect via vectors is more of a construction work and it's not per se easy to translate serveral creation routines (aka "the painting") into vectors. It certainly takes some time to develop and adapt things and surely makes things more expensive. And not everyone wants a "flat", more abstract design and there are good reasons for that. I guess, it's an ongoing transition process to develop new standards and techniques. And this is still kind of niche market in general, so not every synth and GUI is necessarily developed by "professionals" - not talking about Rob Papen, Jon Ayres & Shaun Ellwood here, it's just a general remark. So, bottom line - as usual, it's not as easy as one might think. :)

I really like that... I prefer it to the black interface (which I do like too).

I must be losing my mind. I think I like it.

A question, Predator 2 is also a full FM synth isnt it? what may i use if i wanna try to use it like an old FM synth only?

It's because they are all standard edm presets (just like spire)....it's a synth aimed at that market after all. I would personally trash the presets and start from scratch.

Can't help myself, but, if that's what Predator 2 is like, and what the factory soundbank is like, then that's pretty mediocre. Really would have expected them to up the sound engine with version 2, doesn't sound like it has been done.

I haven't read the manual or viewed it in depth, but my impression is either there is a nice gluing style compressor on board, or these videos have been produced. There is gluing style dynamics happening in the sound examples that I find pleasing.

Great. I don't like it. That's one less thing I'll need money for. :phew:

Some patches sound pretty good actually, e.g., the distorted lead at 6:10, the "liqid" sequences at 33:24 and 35:00 and some others. Give them a proper reverb and a bit of compression and place them correctly in a mix and they will sound huge. Most other sounds are not impressive on their own but probably can work well in a mix. Will wait for the demo.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try
