Reaktor is included in Komplete. However, the last Komplete had Reaktor 5 in it. So, Reaktor 6 won't appear until the next Komplete is released.

The reaktor ensembles that NI sell (Razor, Monark, etc) are not included with Reaktor. However, Reaktor does come with tons of other great ensembles and you can load user library contributions.
Thanks, not having the latest versions of their synths in the bundle doesn't exactly make much sense though? I won't buy their bundle because of that.

Do the ensembles like Monark include some "custom" stuff besides the GUI, could I build it from the components that come with Reaktor 6? I don't necessarily want Reaktor for the the ready-made ensembles, but the Monark filters appear higly regarded and I wonder if those actually Reaktor filters, or built from very low-level components.

Komplete gives you the latest versions of everything at the date of release. If NI does later does a major version upgrade, then you don't get it for free. It's not a subscription (although years ago it was....). The next version of Komplete will have the latest versions of everything.

Honestly, I don't understand your issue. You're saying buying Komplete 10 should entitle you to upgrades to the latest version indefinitely? (Wait...I think I get it...see EDIT below).

Monark has custom coded modules. Reaktor allows for programming at a very base level to build your own modules.

EDIT: AHhhh...I think I get what you're saying. If you get the lastest version of Komplete now, will you get Reaktor 6? Like a grace period....I don't think they do that. You'd have to wait for Komplete 11 to get Reaktor 6.

you could. if you dive deep enough into reaktors core cells...
beside that reaktor 6 comes with the monark-filter as a block, but i'm not sure, if it's protected somehow (read it somewhere, haven't made the update).

No it shouldn't entitle me to any upgrades, but I'm talking about this from a new customer perspective.

Since it's just a software bundle, why doesn't it include current versions of their instruments?

Thanks, this clears it :)

Judging by the sound design stuff of yours I've heard, I think you'd do great things with it. It does sound great when you push it in the same type of ways you'd push analog modular gear, with lots of audio rate modulation and filtering.

What's the catch with Reaktor? Is there a dog buried somewhere? I've been playing (and instantly recording because it sounds just fantastic) with MicroPrism, browsing the blatantly amazing User Library and reading reviews- it looks like this is the best VSTi one could possibly buy?

Because 'current' is a constantly moving target as NI bring out multiple new products every year that qualify as part of it. Komplete, which has two distinct versions, is also a boxed product, sold, physically, in shops. Shipping two new versions of Komplete to stores every other month (and recalling the old versions ) would just be impossible, and managing upgrade paths would just become a nightmare.

Sorry but no. Current isn't a "moving target" by definition, and whoever thinks it's OK to waste resources by selling and buying virtual property on physical copies needs to re-evaluate their place in this world. Manging upgrade paths is an absolute non-issue, in 2016 software companies might even have a computer in the office to hold a customer database.

Anyway, buying Komplete 10 is an automatic no-go for me as it comes with old versions. Their loss so I don't care that much.

I personally find your position valid .jon.
I don't buy Komplete either, but the few things from it I actually want to use and I look for intro prices or sales.
Reaktor 6 was the first update in 10 years, so it is quite affordable (bought it in a sale).
Kontakt 5 is also around for a long time (also bought in a sale).
Otherwise I have Molekular (bought in a sale), Absynth (bought second hand) and some of the free Christmas effects.
Those weren't majorly updated in a long time either, smaller updates were free so far.
This strategy leaves me more flexible and is actually cheaper than Komplete in my case.

IMO Komplete is a very clever way to play on peoples emotional G.A.S. keyboard ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

The fact its not downloadable is exactly why I've never bought it (Komplete that is, not Reaktor 6, im a happy Reaktor 6 owner).

Seems crazy to me.

I am pretty sure it is now downloadable when purchased.

I'll have to check again. Last time I spoke with NI Customer Service they said it wasnt. That was probably a year ago or so.

I know I can download it from my account...... also I just without signing in added it to my cart and I sure did see download as an option.... try it for yourself.
