Korg Minilogue

I'm sure that there is some kind of quality contol... there usually is in whatever industry, and the factories in China seem to be overall pretty good these days. I'm sure that is a fairly big aspect of the pricing... if it was being manufactured somewhere else it would probably cost a LOT more to bring to market.

Tats chatting about the Minilogue ... (no sounds on this one, but some nice insights on the design process, how they hit the $500 mark, and 'it was all kind of about the accessibility to great synthesis without having to be a complete nerd about it' ... hear, hear. Quite prescient too...)

Seems like the cost was reduced by choice of inexpensive components and choice of functions e.g. adding a tuning component, so that the factory workers didn't have to adjust each components on every unit (from 4.56).
This synth is just too good to be true, isn't it? I almost wish that the catch is some sporadic clicks. At least I would know what the catch is.
Going to be a while before mine arrives, but I am so eager to hook it up with my JD-Xi and Volca bass for some analog-style jamming. Afterwards I will make some samples, load them to my MC909 and build up a tune using only these sound sources to reveal minilogues potential.
Sweet dreams....now don't disappoint me Korg (and you didn't use slave labor or something, right?)

Might be inexpensive components, but it certainly doesn't sound inexpensive IMHO... sounds quite classy and has a character all of its own - the price of admission is unbelievable for what's packed into it. Definitely going to be a huge seller for Korg!

totally agree! let's hope for an elektron-overbridge-like software thingie!EvilDragon wrote:Might be inexpensive components, but it certainly doesn't sound inexpensive IMHO... sounds quite classy and has a character all of its own - the price of admission is unbelievable for what's packed into it. Couldn't agree more. Whatever components and physical limitations, the engineer did his job...and a whole lot more it seems. Count me in if he's got a fanclub.EvilDragon wrote: it certainly doesn't sound inexpensive IMHO... sounds quite classy and has a character all of its own - the price of admission is unbelievable for what's packed into it.
BTW: Do you guys think this will cause a lot of backward engineering when other Companies lay hands on minilogue? Maybe we are in for a right-priced-analog-polysynth race in a near future? Will Roland finally stop emulating themselves and join? Future is exciting...but as is: KORG RULES!

Piece of piss if you know webMIDI. I'd start now, but I bet someone creates a good one in about a week's timelalo wrote:totally agree! let's hope for an elektron-overbridge-like software thingie!EvilDragon wrote:Might be inexpensive components, but it certainly doesn't sound inexpensive IMHO... sounds quite classy and has a character all of its own - the price of admission is unbelievable for what's packed into it. thanks for the webMIDI info! But for what i see is aimed at browser integration with MIDI world or for remote control of MIDI devices and softwares.duncanm wrote:Piece of piss if you know webMIDI. I'm talkin' about DAW integration. Building a VST/AU that control every parameter in the Minilogue would be not so difficult with Juce or iPlug. Or just using ReaControlMIDI
The real obstacle is the MIDI implementation of Minilogue. If its limited to 0..127 MIDI CC there's no way to set the Cutoff at its precise value via DAW automation. I hope that Korg implement a full resolution Sys-Ex parameter table and/or at least 14bit MIDI CC. Btw what are the Cutoff parameter lowest and higher values in Minilogue.
And ...take a look at what's possible with Overbridge in terms of DAW integration!

Have they mentioned if they're going to make a module version? (i.e., w/out the keyboard, etc.)

no they haven't ... but they released a module version of the ms20 and that was surely more of a long shot than this.Phase47 wrote:Have they mentioned if they're going to make a module version? (i.e., w/out the keyboard, etc.)
this also has an audio in, so that also leaves the door open for an expander version (like a module, but with much less or even no knobs. harder to imagine them releasing something like this)

I got a few sounds recorded if anyone's interested in more demos. Not spent a huge amount of time with it yet
