That's a line I often cross in my own tracks :D

I have very high tolerance to "cheesiness" as I mostly prefer softer, melodic and euphoric kinds of psy. But i generally tend to dislike melodies that sound too happy, like some of Liquid Soul tracks. Indeed, a fine line here, I often can't really explain why i like one track and dislike another similar one.

Yes. Some of my fav albums are FREq - Strange Attractors (2004), Human Blue - Electric Roundabout (2002), Element - Full Moon (2002).
I also enjoy some modern psyprog, the melodic ones, but almost everyone sounds the same nowadays. They all use the same kick & bass pattern (KbBB) and boring metallic FM sounds, almost no melodies.

Thanks for the links, all great stuff. I'd forgotten how good that FREq album is!

For me the main issue with a lot of today's psy prog is a lack of rhythm. The huge KbBB patterns certainly sound impressive on a big system but I don't find them particularly fun to dance to. Some of the most enjoyable sets I heard in recent years were from producers than actually dialled the bassline down a little and let the kick drive the track - though that's just my taste.

Some of the Zenon records stuff has some interesting techy percussion going on which also makes a nice change - though most of that is a little too far down the psychedelic rabbit hole for me.

Today there is no prog, there is 145 pbm full-on and 138 bpm full-on which is miscalled prog

Check out these albums, if you don't know them already, you may happen to like them.

Great to get him back. Some things i remark:
1 - intro without rhythmics as expected
2 - i am skeptical about "punchy serum pluck" bass - that's something new for his style. i recall that old tracks concentrate attention on acid lines or midfreq leads, while bass smooth or subtle

to me this track sound more like modern psytrance rather than man with no name
anyway that's a good warp up

Post

Yes, this sounds like modern psytrance but i hear some melodies and atmospheres i used to love in old MWNN tracks.

I think that's good, instead of recycling old stuff he made something fresh and modern with his own touch.

I think it's a great track! It gave me goosebumps :) MWNN striked a nice balance between modern psy beats and hypnotic melodies without being cheezy, which is quite rare. Can't wait for the album, it's been too long.

Oh man that's bloody brilliant from MWNN always loved his productions

This one is mine absolute golden retro full on dancefloor 101 banger, share yours 8) :hyper: :drunk: :-o :ud:  :-P

Second place, probably the worst produced track in existence, but on dancefloor, wow, Dino Psaras has most lousiest production in whole genre, but his tracks somehow work on floor, just shows you really need actual something besides 101 production standard.

Third place, Shanti Matkin, absolute lousy production, think this guy made all his tracks somewhere on the road with laptop using Logic, probably touring with Dino Psaras, but yeah, he lived on the dancefloor, know what works and what not, didn't had time to actualy sit in proper room with monitors, knocked plenty of tunes that knocked the floors on the go, just again shows you need to have it in you.

They don't make full-on like that anymore, man!

I used to love this kind of psy (and still secretly do lol), 145 bpm, groooooovy VB-1 bass, catchy melodies not afraid of sounding cheesy and silly but always f*cking cool!

Some of my favourites (some of.... I mean should I post all my favs the thread would quickly became two times longer)
