There is also a fader called "EXT SYNTH" which could be helpful in combination with the setup you just described.TheoM wrote:Ok i've worked it out..
the grey button must be flipped towards the keyboard on the gui.
Place the Xils V effect version on the thing you want to use as the CARRIER. say strings, whatever.
then sidechain the thing you want to modulate into it, say your sdrum loop, or vocal. Press a key. Done.
<Make sure it's in vocoder mode, use a preset to make that simple with a VOC>
i just tried it and it works perfectly, and i know orange vocoder which is AU only also works perfectly in live the way it does in logic so this would do the same. Remember, fx version on the sound you want your vocal or loop or voice or whatever to MORPH into.. then sidechain your vocal ,loop or voice into it and play.
The "DIRECT MIC" fader is used to add the unchanged sound (without vocoder) of the vocoder input.

Thanks theo,TheoM wrote:what host? i'll try help you. Ableton yes? you need to use the sidechain.. i'll work it out in logic, then try put it together in ableton for you.. as Xavier said, those tutorial are COMING, he said that before, cause he can't do everything in one day but he's working on it
I just want to know where in the manual it explains it, I will then figure it out in live.
as far as I can see, the manual doesnt really explain how.
I agree with you, this synth really good.

you have it right. the modulator is typically a drum loop or a vocal sample while for the carrier a string or brass pad works great.TheoM wrote:i may have the words carrier and modulator the wrong way as i do that almost all the time with a vocoder, but when i say carrier i mean the pad you want to blend something *into*, or the xils itself, and the modulator being the sound you want to warp into the carrier. Sorry if i am wrong, too lazy to wiki it

The use of the "EXT SYNTH" fader does not seem to be explained in the latest version of the manual. I am quite sure it was there in an earlier version...Ingonator wrote: There is also a fader called "EXT SYNTH" which could be helpful in combination with the setup you just described.
The "DIRECT MIC" fader is used to add the unchanged sound (without vocoder) of the vocoder input.
I just tested this setup in Ableton Live 9 (use "open picture in new window" to see the full size):

This uses one instance of PPG Wave 3.V at the same track as the V+ FX. Another instance of PPG Wave 3.V is used as an input into V+.
With the Side Chain Selector switch you could now switch between the two PPG Wave 3.V inputs.
With the EXT SYNTH fader you could create an interesting mix. In this xase the "External synth" seems to be the second track with the other PPG 3.V instance.
If "EXT SYNTh" is set to 0 the second track/instance has no influence on the sound.
Here is an audio demo using that setup in the screenshot:
Xils V+ - PPG goes V+ Part III
------------
UPDATE:
Another setup with "Water" vocoder off and a Strings sound for the PPG wave 3.V instance at the second track ("Ext Synth" fader at 85%):

audio demo of that setup:
Xils V+ - PPG goes V+ Part IV
Same setup but with "Ext Synth" fader at 100%:
Xils V+ - PPG goes V+ Part V
This should correspond to using the second track (Strings sound in PPG Wave 3.V) as a carrier and the PPG vocal/vox sound at the first track as the modulator.
All sounds used with the PPG 3.V are from my own soundbank.

I can get it to vocode, but I have to hit keys on the XLS, and it is the sounds of the XLS that are being the carrier, not the synth that the SLX is after in the effect chain.
I must be doing something wrong

Maybe you could try a setup comparable to those in my last posts at this page.dusted william wrote:

Have you tried to use the "EXT SYNTH" fader? This in combination with the right side Chain selector setting should be the solution.

Can you do an example with a voice or a drum beat as the modulator so it is easy to follow?
Also, I don't understand why notes must be played on the V+ if it is acting like a vocoder with a separate carrier and modulator.
Please can you give an example with V+ being a vocoder with a separate carrier, a beat for a modulator, and noted being played on the V+ don't influence the sound... like a regular vocoder. I would greatly appreciate it.

when I do this, I'm not convinced that the V+ is not also the carrier.TheoM wrote:the notes would be played on the V+ as an instrument track that is what would be triggered. that makes sense. but it doesn't make sense to have to press the keyboard of it with the mouse, which is where i am at with it when using an external carrier.
