Must be the subliminal messages buried in all 40 gigs of the sample content.

I do think something like an Omnisphere Player might be an idea, actually.

Place, say, 750 presets or whatever and go nuts

That the filters do not work, for some, does not make the entire instrument useless. There are plenty of ways to deal with that.

Having said that, and seeing that Spectrasonics is not going to change its business plan, I, for one, am happy with whatever comes down the pike.

To be clear, I said cult-like, not cult. Obviously much of the following doesn't apply except in a very abstract sense.

From: http://www.csj.org/infoserv_cult101/checklis.htm, emphasis mine.
Compare these patterns to the situation you were in (or in which you, a family member, or friend is currently involved). This list may help you determine if there is cause for concern. Bear in mind that this list is not meant to be a “cult scale” or a definitive checklist to determine if a specific group is a cult. This is not so much a diagnostic instrument as it is an analytical tool.

The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.

Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).

The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth).

The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity).

The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.

‪The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations).

The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities).

The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt iin order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion.

Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group.

The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.

‪The group is preoccupied with making money.

Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities.

Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.

The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group.
However, the desire to create a "cult-like" following for a product is documented and desired. Status is a key part of these efforts.

Finally, the kind of loyalty displayed has been shown to be neurologically similar to religion in followers of apple products.

Cult-like appropriately describes the seemingly religious affection that many owners have towards Omnisphere.

Well, one thing is for sure, those of us who bought it, made a sacrifice :hihi:

Ha! That completely describes literally every corporation I've had to work at! And every religion I've been forced to endure!

I knew that already, been fighting' the good fight against NLP and mindrape fascism since I woke up to it, but no... I don't worship at the altar of Omnisphere. If I did, I wouldn't ever dare to open up Alchemy, Massive, Absynth, or any other of the dozen or so synths I love to torture people with. Mwa ha.

Here's some heresy: I find a lot of the patches in Omnisphere to be harsh and unpleasant. :o

I have stopped buying new instruments a while ago as I have enough VSTis to explore and use for the next 200 years. Nonetheless I will blindly buy whatever Eric brings out. Call it cult if you like. I call it 100% customer satisfaction with the Spectras.

I feel the same way. I have all of their products and have never felt that any of the acquisitions were frivolous or anything I regretted. They have consistently given complete value to their products and the products themselves have been top notch. I do not mind spending money on high value. The effect of their products is so strong in getting the creative juices flowing it is worth every cent for that alone.

I encourage all the comically obsessed sour-grape naysayers in this thread not to buy Omnisphere. And I heartily applaud your decision. I don't want everyone using the same synth I do.

 So predictable...

And the rest of the thread wasn't? (except for the news and GlennO giving us false hope  )

What false hope from GlennO? That was pretty mild clarification IMHO.
