I finally figured out the difference. I created a 1 bar MIDI clip in Ableton Live, which I played in a loop. In this clip I entered only two notes, 1 beat in length each. First note was placed in between measures 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 and second note was placed on measure 1.3. This turned out to be crucial, that only second note was quantized. I chose square wave for the LFO to make changes more obvious.
Settings: LFO SYNC OFF, LFO TRIGGER HARD. In this setting LFO was restarted with each note in the MIDI clip.
Settings: LFO SYNC OFF, LFO TRIGGER SOFT. In this setting LFO was triggered with first note only. It kept the modulation going for the duration of first note and the second note in the MIDI clip. The first note determined when LFO started.
Settings: LFO SYNC OFF, LFO TRIGGER FREE. In this setting LFO was not being triggered by any of the notes in the MIDI clip. It kept running freely (duh) :)

Dude, why do you have to be so "prickly" all the time? It's really off-putting. And it's not just here on KVR. When someone on the NI Komplete forum asked about HiDPI support, you told him to get a standard res monitor if he wanted to use the extremely expensive Native Instrument plugins he had purchased (as if Native Instruments, arguably the most successful music software company in the world, doesn't have the resources to develop HiDPI versions of its plugins in a timely manner if it makes it a priority). Do you realize how unhelpful, bordering on obnoxious your reply was?

Is there any reason why you need my email address and other personal details?

EDIT: Not a problem - I faked all the information and it downloaded just fine. Thank you. :D

That's the new form of currency. Also a good way to create a mailing list to send news etc. I assume that users can opt-out whenever they want. True, I was surprised to see that requirement. Paused for 5 seconds. Then realized, that plenty of developers already have my email. It really stopped making a difference many years ago.
When I think how much time it took him to create these patches, the least I can do is give my email.

I don't use info or emails, surely I never send newsletters and will never do that. If this is my own website, I wound ditch the need to put email address.

Thanks for feedback & have creative time

I'm not being prickly, I'm stating things matter-of-factly and bluntly. There's a difference. It is just common sense not to go bleeding edge on an audio production system. And yes I think it helps to state that fact every now and then since people apparently seem to forget about it. That's not being unhelpful.

I don't see what is obnoxious in stating normal stuff like that. So maybe... chill?

What's rather "prickly" is jumping on a new version of Mac OS on the day it was released and then expecting a freeware synth to automatically work on it.

But whether Mac or Windows, adopting a new OS version on day one is never a good idea especially on a mission critical system.

It's called bleeding edge for a reason...there will almost certainly be pain.

FWIW, it still works - probably just needs to have signing updated.

My statement that your reply was unhelpful and bordering on obnoxious was in reference to your telling an NI forum member to get a standard res monitor if he wants to use NI plugins. That was you being a dick and not offering any helpful advice. You could have said, "What about getting an inexpensive 24" standard resolution monitor for less than $200 as a second monitor? You could put it off to the side of your main "Retina" display and use it to edit all your plugins that are not HiDPI compatible."

Regarding your KVR comment, telling someone that they shouldn't have installed Monterey on the first day it was released was just curt and unhelpful. i'm just wondering what you thought your reply would accomplish. And please don't tell that it was meant to educate the masses. That's unbelievably arrogant and not your job. In your reply, you could have said, "You know, you probably don't want to hear this. But if you need to use your incompatible plugins right way, then you will need to reinstall Big Sur. Or, you can wait for your plugins to be updated as unpalatable as that sounds. Let me know if you need any help or advice installing a fresh copy of Big Sur."

Can you see the difference in tone and helpfulness?
