Okay, we're going to need somebody to run the event. They'll need to come up with at least 500 questions about music from 1964-1989. They will play the part of Alex Trebek. We'll also need buzzers to buzz in with that accurately show who buzzed in first to answer.thecontrolcentre wrote:Buy me a ticket, I'll be there. I could do with some warmer weather. Its snowing here.
We'll also need a venue to host this. I'm not doing this challenge sitting out on the beach.
So, how do we arrange all that?

I'm not even going to waste my time reading that, you shouldn't have wasted your time writing all this nonsense, you should be pissed off at your own damn self for being so petty and making a mountain out of a molehill and wasting your valuable time on this. Be pissed at yourself and stop it, and go make music instead.wagtunes wrote:The argument was not over having an R&B sound set for Repro-5. The argument was over insisting that SUCH a soundset would be exclusively R&B sounds, like nobody else in the world uses them.braj wrote:If someone asking for R&B sound sets pisses you off, we'llI definitely think there is a place for that, even if they can be used in other genres. If you really want those sounds, own Repro but don't know how to program them, having a bank dedicated to just that would be helpful, if not unique. I don't see why this argument ever even started, it is inane.
Point being, if I were to just make a generic sound set for Repro-5 (I didn't but made a set geared towards 70s prog rock) there would be plenty of sounds in that set that could be used for R&B, rock, whatever.
It is this insistence that R&B musicians magically invented these "R&B exclusive" sounds long before anybody else is absurd. Then, he DEMANDED that I prove to him that rock bands used R&B sounds.
WTF does he think he is?
Wiki's got a whole list of rock bands from the 70s and 80s that I'm sure he's NEVER heard of. Let him do the research himself. I've got better things to do with my time.
And trust me, I could easily do an "R&B set" for Repro-5. But what would be the point? Trying to sell them as "exclusive" R&B sounds to any musician who has any knowledge of music would be an insult to their intelligence. Again, some guy promoting an R&B set and the first sound he plays is Toto's "Africa" is laughable. Yeah, that's an R&B exclusive sound alright.
That's why I'm so pissed off. This insistence that R&B guys somehow invented these new cool sounds that are "R&B Sounds" is a total joke. And when people pass off bad information to others, I call them out on it. Plain and simple.

I'm off topic but serious here:wagtunes wrote:But hey, any time you want to do all music trivia on Jeopardy (1964-1989) just say the word. I will mop up the floor with you.thecontrolcentre wrote:wagtunes wrote:

Wags, why don't you think of making a YouTube channel? I think if you use all that you know (also about music, synths, bands ..etc), all that would make interesting videos, taking in consideration that they will be executed well.
For example, instead of making an album about prog rock (or whatever), you make a video about it after some research. You only need a good microphone and a camera, nothing fancy. If I'm a native English speaker I would sure have done that since years ago, but unfortunately I have a strong accent with bad pronunciation in general!
I don't know! I think you should think of it.
Now, about Playing Style vs Synth sounds. They are so related like a cup of tea with milk or cappuccino! You can't say tea is more important than milk! Both together define the result that we drink.
For the topic RePro and how related to the paragraph above, well, I don't think RePro needs commercial presets because it is not that difficult to program. In general the VA subtractive synths are not that complex. Synths that based on additive, FM, wavetable, or other complex synthesis, I believe, those need presets. Modular synths are also complex and in need of presets. But that is for me, maybe for some users they don't want to bother with editing at all and just need an immediate result of an exact sound in a specific song.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
