GR6 has also added 16 effects from Native and Softube (stuff that existed outside of GR before as stand alone products) and much better cabinet sounds (impulse responses from OwnHammer and 3 Sigma Audio). The sum is more than the parts, adding all the high end compressors and EQs and reverbs etc from Softube and the latest crush and mod packs FX from NI definitely up the game. A lot of new pre-sets as well.
The main interface and redone original parts make a big different - the modulation stuff (GR's strong point) is much easier to see and use. You have split, split M/S and crossover, a step sequencer, an analogue style sequencer (my faveroute), a Multi stage envelope and an LFO...you can apply these to ever 'knob' very easily all within the rack.

X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Well I think that I made my decision and I'll update Komplete. Both NI and IKM are far from perfection but I hope that soon NI will speed up and they'll bring updates to GR6 more often than updates for MX (I feel like NI is in hibernation now). Yet it still makes me feel that NI is more reliable than IKM in that matter.
Btw I saw huge bashing of new ICM tech as their amp sims are the worst amps ever created

Not that you are saying that, but old doesn't mean its badpixel85 wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:02 amThanksSLiC wrote: Fri Oct 02, 2020 6:29 pm GR6 has also added 16 effects from Native and Softube (stuff that existed outside of GR before as stand alone products) and much better cabinet sounds (impulse responses from OwnHammer and 3 Sigma Audio). But it's the same for MixBox tho
We are talking about ~10 years old plugins here.

P.s. this is off topic so no need to react but waves l2 is still one of my favourite and most used track limiters and it's over 20 years old?

Well the ICM amps are currently just 3 amps in a collection of 100s and secondly they sound great to me. In my home studio I have an Ampeg bass amp, several guitar valve amps, helix, HD500, Scuffam, Amplitube etc...I have a lot of choices and I would use the new ICM amps for recording as the new framework and fx add something new and I am getting some interesting sounds.pixel85 wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:02 am Btw I saw huge bashing of new ICM tech as their amp sims are the worst amps ever createdI hope that it's only issue for guitarists and not for sound designers

Guitar people are very picky, I often Mike up my valve amps to record but the reality is (like VA versus real analog) once it’s recorded and in a mix no one else can tell the difference!

Yes, for me, the potentially larger GUI is the most important point for me aswell.
The additionally added effects are a nice bonus, though i was really hoping for Driver to be included too.
I'm not even that interested in the new amp models and i somehow can't believe that the new ones should be way inferior to the old ones, as the “bashing?“ seems to imply.
Will see myself tonight when i'm grabbing my copy virtually, though no guitar player here. strictly for synths & samples.

I personally haven't seen a lot of GR6 new amp bashing, I suspect a lot of people who bash a product don’t even own it (some probably don’t even play guitar!). One thing I always notice is that there are people with very strong opinions about one product they particularly like that turn up in every amp sim thread to slag off the competition.
I have never understood why people who seem to care so much about the authentic sound don’t just mike up an amp, it’s relatively cheap and easy....it’s all of the fx that make amps is fun.

EDIT: Does anyone have or had issues with payment at NI website? It's rejecting even the payment method that I was using in the past successfully.
Fortunately, BestService doesn't have any issues

I wasn't aware of GR until a few days ago and I'd been looking at various creative multi-fx plugins (Snap Heap, Soundtoys Effect Rack, IK MixBox etc) in a non-guitar context for mangling drum loops, colouring synth bass and various other electronic music applications. I realised I was eligible for a cheap crossgrade to GR5 from an old NI freebie and then a free upgrade to GR6 so I took a gamble and bought GR5 and the free GR6 upgrade for £89.FapFilter wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:47 am Yes, for me, the potentially larger GUI is the most important point for me aswell.

My impression, after a few days of playing around, is that if you can get it for a good price it offers a lot of value as a delay and reverb toolbox and for adding "colour" to synths and drum loops etc. I don't care about amp modelling stuff but the mod/crush pack, raum, "colour" compressors etc all sound good to me and the softube reverbs are pretty slick as well. The Traktor 12 FX can sound a bit "samey" but if you want to use them to find variations with drum loops or do "glitch" stuff for resampling on group/bus tracks then it's actually pretty decent. Run a synth bassline and drum loop together through some distortion and beatmasher and you can get some fun stuff.
My main complaint would be that the modulation tools (LFO, Envelope etc) are a bit clumsy to use for me because I'm used to Bitwig's modulator system which is incredibly versatile and easy. That said, even if you don't use the modulators and just layer up some distortions, delays and reverbs (which can also be done with mid/side and frequency splitting) you can get some very interesting sounds. I appreciate that I'm probably not using it for it's intended purpose but I think it actually stacks up pretty well against some of the multi-fx competition if you get a discounted price. Probably a bit steep at full price but truthfully most of those other products aren't that cheap either if you get the "full" package or have to buy extra FX to make them complete.
I agree that Driver is a strange omission, and Replika come to think of it.

Personally I expect these to be added with a free update at some point (maybe with the new modelling?)quincy wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:50 am I agree that Driver is a strange omission, and Replika come to think of it.
GR6 is the beginning of the journey, they have made a big deal about the 'speed' they will be able to add new components, so I expect some tasty updates

Yes, Evil mentioned before that Replika is (probably?) going to get added, but nothing explicitly regarding Driver, since when i asked, i accidently mixed it up and asked for Dirt when i actually meant Driver
Regarding the individual effects: i actually don't really need many of them on their own as i'm covered with individual plugs which perfectly suit me well. It's indeed the ease of use and speed you can mix and modulate everything, though I don't have Bitwig and don't have any intentions to do so either.
Reaper has been more than good enough for my needs.

Can somebody convince me that I need this?
I have Kontakt, so my upgrade to K13 standard is $399 (ultimate for $999).
The main things I’m interested in are Reaktor (blocks), Kontour, maybe a couple of the sample libraries. I already own a few softsynths so Massive X wouldn’t add anything fundamentally new, and I’ve had the demo for a few months.
All in all it’s probably worth $399, but would NI have a Black Friday sale on this upgrade considering the new version was just released?

Most likely not this year. If you can wait that time, they'll surely have something next summer. I would definitely wait, if there's not many things you are actually interested in in that package.

You can download blocks primes for free and try them first. If you want in general modular synth I'd say VM in general is a bit user friendlier.CausticPuppy wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:36 am Can somebody convince me that I need this?![]()
