If you want a fair comparison take the basic waveforms, turn off all effects, make sure they have the same RMS level. Compare different things: lower note values, high note values, chords...

I dont think that virus was known for high quality, instead i guess it is pretty aliasing stuff. Maybe you just like it. On the other hand, there are things to discuss: e.g. The curve how voices are spread in unison, free vs. Random phase, linear pwm or not, the filter design...

Of course all those things should be discussed and tested. But comparing one preset to another preset without making sure they use the same settings and without gain stagging is just bs.

Still lot's of work to do, but here are some results
I decided to make a series of colored skins.
Still lot's of work to finetune the labels etc,... but this is the idea already...
For the Nord fans, Red as a venetian blonde...
Nordic redblonde skin

Not for the faint at heart
Grunge Venger

I black isn't in these days... How about some grey?
Brushed Venger

So you don't like Red huhn?
OB-blue Venger

Would I dare to try make a yellow one for the sports?
Comes with different screen colors for the type of synthesis
Modeling,

Sampling, (thinking to make this orange)

Granular

As said, still lots of work to do, especially on the txt files that colors the labels and fonts, but they will come...

I own and love both. Apples to Oranges. Hardware to me always sounds better. Maybe cause they are generally louder. I like it to just about blow my speakers so I like the Modular the best

This all makes sence if one synth is intended to be an emulation of another one, or they otherwise share the same design, same signal path etc and are supposed to sound simialr at similar settings. Not the case with Virus and Avenger.Warehouseparty wrote:If you want a fair comparison take the basic waveforms, turn off all effects, make sure they have the same RMS level. It's all matter of taste anyway. Maybe it's just the presets in Avenger are tailored to modern EDM, this very clean "plastic" sound which I dislike. I did some sound-design excercises in the demo but it's very deep synth, not something that can be mastered in 30 minutes.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

i always test with DRY saw wave and then unison/detune. the build in effects vary a lot, so comparing presets is so noob'ish, sorry, but a great synth can sound shit with shit presets....
sadly i have no virus synth so i cannot test with avenger

Hey man, here's a color palette inspiration for you, one can spend days looking at this, without affecting the vision: https://pureav.deviantart.com/art/Sylen ... -430769010godly wrote: I decided to make a series of colored skins.

Hey there. First of all: I really like Avenger. Besides the (all over) positive aspects, and before writing a report to Rene, i would like to ask a question to the communitiy here, about the (well discussed) performance issues, regarding GPU vs CPU usage.
In my case, I can load up to 20 instances of avenger. The CPU usage looks okay (well, of course depending on what kind of presets i load). The GPU *PROCESSING* usage as well.
My Problem is: The GPU *MEMORY*.
Yes, my system specs are really individual, and my GPU is lightly outdated. But: Is there anybody out there, who could confirm this?
When opening a (previously saved) cubase project i.e., with all Avenger GUIs closed, there is absolutely no Problem. But when opening the GUis, one after another, and even when closing them right after...
I will get a GPU Memory overload...
It simply looks like, the GPU Memory is not unloaded after closing the GUI.
This is a first Screenshot, with only 2 Instances opened:

It's a matter of feel also. I have to feel good with the gui. I don't care for a clean interface, doesn't feed my brains
But of course, this is over the top

I think both the Virus and Avenger works great together because of the difference in sound.
I find Avengers sound to be high quality too in it's own way

Any chance in getting the next update to allow saving presets in demo mode?
