Fathom Version 3.7 is Released.

This adds Spectral Modulation and Modulated Envelope Segments.

This probably the biggest release we have done requiring around six months of development. Spectral Modulation provides random harmonic partial modulation over any user defined range in the frequency spectrum of harmonics for an oscillator. Three types of modulation are provided, harmonic amplitude, harmonic phase and harmonic frequency. All three can be employed simultaneously. The ranges can also be modulated in realtime. This feature can be used to create very clean alias free noise for effects normally only found in a hardware oscillator. Please see the demo songs for how it sounds.

Modulated Envelope Segments allow the user to modulate the time width or amplitude of individual segments or a range of segments in any ADSR, Envelope or Sequencer using any other modulator. This can be used for dynamic piano and guitar attacks and decays based on note velocity, song position or other modulators.

Spectrums Sound Bank

There is a new Sound Bank called "Spectrums" which provides 148 presets demonstrating how to use Spectral Modulation along with four demo songs making use of the bank.

Fathom Vector Sale

For a limited time Fathom Vector is on sale for $90 (Normally $125) during the month of March 2022. When Video Card GPU processing is released in version 3.8 the price will be going up to around $200.

GPU Processing

I have Video Card GPU processing working. I could not get it into 3.7 because it will require some redesign in the oscillator voice engine. So it will go into 3.8 in about six weeks. GPU processing allows all 500 harmonic partials needed for spectral modulation to be done in parallel. Current test results are as follows. Times will be even better than listed here since all eight detune voices will be done in parallel on the Video Card in addition to the harmonic partials.

Calculate waveform buffer using 4096 samples per wave, 500 harmonic partials, 256 iterations.

Time: CPU 1500 Milliseconds
Time: GPU 105 Milliseconds

i can of course email, but perhaps, it is also useful here:

windows 10 (21H2)

1. the vst3 version does not recognize AVX (intel proc, i7-9750H)
2. the installer seems to put the vst3 somewhere, must check it better, but not in the custom folder.
3. spectrum bank isn't included, in the installer, or maybe i do overlook it. (EDIT: aha you must buy it, well then i will explore it myself....)

i always make a bit of a mess with installing Fathom Vector, but it worked..

the manual way seems now to prefered? on windows?

spectrum is nice to see, how it works, deep diving in Vector i already do, with results, great results.

it is a i7 9750h, avx2, and the vst2 version (3.7) will work with avx... i shall try again, to check, i always do double double check...

did not check yet on my studio desktop, has also avx2, amd 5900x.

Folks, you can now download for free the Ableton Project files used to create all four demo songs for the Spectrums Sound Bank. The download contains the projects including all Fathom tracks, audio tracks and a song license giving anyone permission to use and release the songs as you wish.

AVX2 VST3

Also be aware that in 3.7 the AVX2 feature is per track.

ok, but the VST3 of Fathom Vector version says; AVX not present (license present), so enabling it, won't work.
tried it in Reaper 6.51, Bitwig Studio 4.0.8.

Awesome, great news. The Demo Tracks definitely sound good.

May I kindly ask for some tutorial video explaining the new features to noobs like me.
I'm actually a bit lost about how to use the controls of the new "Spectral Modulation" and what the effect of the individual controls is. I studied the manual and tried to tweak the setting accordingly. I can get some nice sounds though not knowing why And the Settings on the righ side of the waveform panel in the Spectrum Tab don't seem to have any effect on the sound in my ears... I'm definitely doing sth worng. But I don't have a clue what.

One thing that I want to ask - If Spectral Mod is switched to On in the Additive Oscillator, then Distortion seem to be kind of disabled: The Distortion Dial no longer does anything, only the Overdrive Dial has an effect on the sound. Probabaly "works as designed"... I don't know.
