Ah, I didn't know that there was a GUI version of Voyager. Now that I know about it, I will check it out too. Just to be sure, this one, right?

Yes correct, should have mentioned it was the Asseca/Limeflavour wrapper GUI.

Voyager_GUI seems to work well with Sonar X1 too, at least to the extent of my basic sanity test of creating 5 instances, loading an external bank, recording some midi, saving, and reloading.
One correction: The link I had above is outdated. There is an easier installer and an updated voyager_gui.dll here:

I tried Alpha-Ray, Feldspar, EVOL, Voyager over the weekend. Voyager is really top-notch, I was staying away from it because of the GUI and hassle of installing mgui, etc. It did take some time to install properly though, I mean the GUI version. It's definitely a keeper.
I am not getting the same issue as adagiocm for Feldspar. I am using Sonar X1 32 bit and I see that he uses 64 bit with bitbridge. Alpha-ray is cool, I may even pay to open up the effects.
These are really nice synths. I wonder why they never took off. I mean apart from a few threads/discussions on Voyager, I never see anything about rest of these. Feldspar I heard for the first time. Is it because they lack publicity? Good presets?

I've seen it mentioned somewhere that Voyager's developer passed away a few years ago. That might explain why it lacks publicity (as well as the lack of a native GUI). I like the way it sounds also.

Yes, it's a shame - the code should be made publicly available, would be great to have a good sounding synth to build on.adagiocm wrote:I've seen it mentioned somewhere that Voyager's developer passed away a few years ago. Thanks for testing. Agree Voyager is great and imo really one of the all-time best free synths, but the original GUI obviously let it down. True the merited developer passed away early, otherwise Voyager might have been updated or even made to a pay-synth. His site with the freeware is still open, but the guy running it does not respond to contact attempts.
Feldspar was payware until recently and the developer not so active, but his free synth Pterosaur I've seen mentioned a few times as one of the better supersaw emulators.
Did you try Scythe? It's one of the few cross-platform Mac\PC synths which makes it especially interesting, but it's a new release so might still have some issues to iron out.

Phrazor is realy powerfull. Layers you can do quite fast and comfortable with VSTis. Phrazor can even transform any synth in quite nice sounding FM synthesizer with 64 operators!V'ger wrote:Was playing with Phrazor yesterday and it's actually very good. Logical and fully featured host really. Stable and efficient too. If you ever want to trigger live MIDI loops for free this and InsertPiz' midiLooper is it imo.
Can also run several PPG Wavesim without hassle here, but it's giving issues with some DAWs unfortunately. And it does use quite a lot of CPU.
I give up. In this world nothing is everything and everything is nothing.

Uncle Irion Tutorialsadagiocm wrote:@SuperNoise, can you elaborate on your comment about transforming any synth into an FM synth by using Phrazor? How does that work?
Use Phrazor as MIDI trigger with any synth you want. Now use a FM filter effect to modulate it.
Now you can transform any synth into a FM synth using Phrazor.
Sorry, i couldn't help it.
I would like to know that FM thing working too, although i can't make work Phrazor into FL Studio for some unknown reason.
Have a good day

AdagioCM, just lesson to Uncle Iron!
So right now, we can use Phrazor... (so far we could use it without restrictions)
We are allowed to use free filter plugins, free EQ, even free ADSR (would be able to find I think), and other stuff.
So finally Phrazor may became an independent synthesizer, the only what we can exchange monthly is an oscilator signal source (VSTi selected for competition).
I'm lost. Is it rally true? Is it allowed?

If FM synthesis is well defined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_ ... _synthesisadagiocm wrote:@SuperNoise, can you elaborate on your comment about transforming any synth into an FM synth by using Phrazor? How does that work?
then modulation is only addition of two or more signals with defined amplitude and frequency.

I know the concept of FM quite well. It is not addition of two or more signals, but modulation of one signal's frequency by the other signal, both the carrier and modulator signals being in the audible range. How does Phrazor allow you to do that using arbitrary synthesizers?

I'm really liking Scythe! Runs super smooth for me in Cubase on my mac. Such a pleasant clean and intuitive layout - with some nice twists like that bend automation. Would be a fun contest synth I think.V'ger wrote:Did you try Scythe? edit: aaah, just saw that it was developed on a mac so no wonder it works so well for me.

You are right... I think, one way to create FM synthesizer with Phrazor is to use this plugin http://www.kvraudio.com/product/the_mod ... _ndc_plugsadagiocm wrote:I know the concept of FM quite well. Finally modulation effects are not allowed in OSC
