I just started reading the manual...
on page 128...
"Plus—if you have access to physical synth modules, you can actually interconnect these with Softube Modular via an audio interface."
it's awesome~!!!!

Templates, presets... same difference, really. Okay, so you load up some preset module arrangements without any patch cords. Or whatever.morelia wrote:Fair enough. I fully agree. Learning to play guitar or program is more for me. I get more enjoyment and sense of achievement out of that. I think I'd prefer some basic templates over presets, but honestly, without some starting point I'd be pretty lost.deastman wrote:I don't thing that one works. A guitar (mostly) only has one preset. A synth can be played, just like a guitar, but what we're talking about is the type of sound that comes out. Anyway, I really don't want to bog this thread down with some sort of anti-preset rant. I'm totally fine with presets, and use them all the time in my own music. The only point I'm trying to make is to really encourage people to roll up their sleeves and give patching a try!
This thing definitely feels very v1.0 to me... loads of ways it could be improved. But it sounds great, and the basic capability is there. I'm going to be using this one a lot!

Well, I grew up with modulars back in the 70s and 80s and I know I'm old and my memory might be a little clouded, but I swear this thing sounds like the hardware synths I used to have back in the day.
Am I crazy or am I on to something?

Yep. In my case, that means running the aux outputs to the lightpipe output of my MOTU 828mkII, and from there to an Expert Sleepers ES3 module. But you can use any non-DC blocking audio interface to go directly to a hardware modular. Reaktor Blocks just introduced some new modules to facilitate the same thing.brianpark999 wrote:I just started reading the manual...

Yes after I typed that I did start to wonder what the difference (if any) would be. Can't really think of one.deastman wrote:Templates, presets... same difference, really. Okay, so you load up some preset module arrangements without any patch cords. Or whatever.
I tinkered with the demo though and it was inspiring enough to get my $. My goal will be to learn how to use it but sadly I tend to tweak rather than start from scratch.

Just start with a basic patch: vco into vcf into vca. Add an envelope. How would you trigger it over MIDI? How about an lfo? A sequencer? How would you combine several oscillators? And so on. It starts getting zen-like when you start thinking about all the different things a sequencer can be used as- an oscillator, an envelope, a quantizer, preset storage memory, and so on. But just start small, tweak, add one thing at a time.morelia wrote:Yes after I typed that I did start to wonder what the difference (if any) would be. Maybe you are not because i am hearing same hw qualities. Or maybe we are both crazy...wagtunes wrote:Well, I grew up with modulars back in the 70s and 80s and I know I'm old and my memory might be a little clouded, but I swear this thing sounds like the hardware synths I used to have back in the day.

Tech tip.
For people on win 10 64 bit having Live and having ilok problem. You know people which need to run Live in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
Ok that will work but keep in mind Live will drastically slow down on big sessions especially if you are using plugins like Nebula or if you are using Max For Live plugins. Your Live will drastically slow down and max for live will take ages to load in some cases. It was debated a lot on various forums.
This appear to be only at 64-bit windows 10 and so far only Live and Presonus studio one have this "ilok" issue where one need to run their host in compatibility mode.
However....if you have performance problems you can do what i did. It occurred to me by reading that only 64-bit OS version have this problem so i was thinking - ok what will happen if i run same plugin but 32 bit over jbridge in to 64 bit host?
Well it works!! I have Live and to run these problematic plugins in 64 bit environment without enabling compatibility mode one can wrapp 32bit version over jbridge. No performance problems, same sound no compatibility problem. Super transparent solution until developers update their plugins.
I talked with two independent developer teams and they told me it's not Host fault it's the way ilok works and few host dependencies but the point is that iLok is responsible for this. Apparently there is new ilok SDK and developers need to update their plugins AND their copy protection (it's separate process and usually developers only update to new copy protection) in order for this to not have problems anymore.
Until that happen with your plugin you can bridge 32 bit version via jbridge. Once when "fix" is available and your plugin is updated and not having this weird problems you can simply delete jbridged version and start using 64 bit version. Session will recall perfectly even if it was previously saved over jbridged plugin because host thinks that it is actually 64 bit version. I tried it and it works.
So in short if you have performance problems in compatibility mode (for example NI Replika won't work in Ableton which is running in compatibility mode) you can wrapp 32 bit version of Softube Modular into 64 bit host over jbridge and it is working super nicely. Only con is that you actually need to order jbridge which is super useful and cheap anyway.
Kind regards

I'm not sure why you removed the question, since it didn't seem at all stupid to me. I haven't tried this yet, but I would think that you could get Softube Modular and Reaktor Blocks talking to each other over virtual audio cables. No idea how well that would work, but it would be interesting to try.lnikj wrote:Stupid question removed

Immediately after posting it occurred to me that I should just route the audio to and fro in my DAW though I note that in Live I am not seeing separate L and R channels but just 4 straight AUX channels that take the combined signal.deastman wrote:I'm not sure why you removed the question, since it didn't seem at all stupid to me. It appears it was something to do with either Comcast or Comcast wireless. I finally turned off wireless on my phone of all things and was able to download that way. Comcast or Comcast wireless must have some buried setting not to download exes that big, although I've downloaded plenty of monster exes in the past.ImNotDedYet wrote:I've tried on my iPad, both PCs, (win 7 & 10) IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari using the 64-bit Windows link on the website, the links posted previously and even URL encoded the parentheses in the URL. No dice. Ping and tracert both return, so this is odd that some are able to download with no issues and others can't.
So, if you're having issues getting the 404 or page not found, try changing your Internet connection...

Might need to use a more modular DAW in that case... Bidule or something.lnikj wrote:Immediately after posting it occurred to me that I should just route the audio to and fro in my DAW though I note that in Live I am not seeing separate L and R channels but just 4 straight AUX channels that take the combined signal.deastman wrote:I'm not sure why you removed the question, since it didn't seem at all stupid to me.
