Hmm, well that's significantly less than I would pay for coffee over ten years... Add the utility would be quite a lot higher.egbert101 wrote:How about $2400+ for a ten year subscription.
*Anything* you pay regularly for over ten years works out quite expensive, so I'm not sure how meaningful those numbers really are, in actuality... :shrugs:

Currently Roland Cloud offers 24 products so in 9 years (if Roland Cloud still exists then) they maybe offer around 100 products or more and you could use all those products during those 9 years of subscription besides owning 9 of them permanently during that time...cfanyc wrote: If you want 9 roland cloud instruments, you need 9 years of

Conclusion: My condolences to the roland cloud subscribers.
So far they already did multiple changes to the subscription model and i guess we could expect more in the future. Same is true about updates of the plugins. They already improved the CPU load of some of them and all plugins got a useful patch browser now.
So while people like you keep on whining the cool kids are playing with all that stuff offered at Roland Cloud...
My condolences to you and others that are missing some nice plugins...
I got Repro-5/Repro-1 (Repro-1 since the first public beta) and the whole Korg Collection (including the upgrade with the ARP Odyssey plugin).cfanyc wrote:so i recently bought 3 synths/bundles:
a. u-he repro1 + pepro5 = $99
b. korg arp odyssey = $69
c. uvi ob legacy (6 instruments) = $150
Total cost = $320 for 9 instruments that are absolutely top notch
No big fan of the UVI sample libraries but i got Falcon since it was released which is a powerful synth.

The ultimate conclusion to this thread: Everyone has the option to subscribe or not. Personally, i also think that it's too much, and i wouldn't pay it, but, you also have to consider Roland's position. They surely wouldn't want to devalue the mass of stuff you get when you subscribed by too low subscription prices. I don't know any other offer like this.
What i'd like to see is an option to buy the plugins though, for a discounted price. 1 year subscription really seems a bit harsh, if you only want this one single plugin. And that's where the bug is in this system for me. What if i just want 1, 2, or 3 single plugins? That combined with the obviously quite brutal CPU requirements for the plugouts makes it seem like a rather mediocre deal for me. But, OK, fair enough, if they think that that it works for them, they shall try. In the end, what counts is how many people will subscribe, and that decides whether the system is a success or not.

I'll start a company selling selling cool plugins in exchange for your one of your kidneys.Ingonator wrote: So while people like you keep on whining the cool kids are playing with all that stuff offered at Roland Cloud...

Point is: you don't mind renting, other people do. If no one expresses their criticisms then Roland will think that everybody who wants their plugins is happy with their renting system.
Not that they necessarily care (probably not) or would change their ways... but the only other alternative (shut up about it) has 0% -guaranteed- influence.
Edit: what I do understand is: all this "whining" does make this thread uninteresting to read.

2. Paying for overpriced stuff does not make one cool.
3. Telling you that you have been had by roland does not constitute whining.
I see it as a friendly warning.
4. I have what seems to be a tsunami of plugins already. No way I will get 100 more
just because roland wants to put me on an "all you can eat buffet" subscription "crack cocaine"
business model.

Who said i am totally happy about the "sytem"? Anyway the decison is to either subscribe and be happy with a bunch of plugins and more that will come or be one of the whiners and contribute in pointless discussions at KVR without having ever touched one of the plugins that are talked about (which obvíously is the case for many of the "haters").T-CM11 wrote: Point is: you don't mind renting, other people do. I have absolutely nothing against a future option to buy single plugins from Roland Cloud without subscription. As nobody knows if and when that will happen i prefer using the plugins with the way that is currently offered. Until they offer that new option i have alraedy used most or even all the plugins for a while and would know exactly which one i would like to buy or not (and besides that after 12 montsh i would already own one of them).
I also own an iLok 2 key and an eLicenser dongle, not because i really love them but because i got a ton of options for using software that i would not be able to use without.

I don't think saying "I won't buy that" is whining. Complaining about people that say they aren't buying it is whining though

It depends on what you want. Either you accept the flaws and use all the products or do not accept the flaws and ask for changes that might never happen (+ you miss using all those products).Aliens wrote:So you're cheer leading for a system you know has flaws. Even if they would offer buying single plugins next year i would not really feel that i wasted my money.
For what i paid so far i might buy a single plugin while i had the option to use all of them and those that were added while i paid the subscription.
When the 12 months are full (in around 5 months) and when i got the plugin that i could keep i would have to decide if i cancel the subscription or not. Again until then i have the option to use all of them and also those that will be added until i might decide to cancel.

If anyone is a cheerleader for the Roland Cloud it's me, not Ingonator. I took (and still take) a lot of sh*t from the "there's no way in hell I am using a sub" crowd with all their long-winded, self-absorbed posts complete with pretzel logic calculations about cost and lamenting how they just want to buy them. And all the time these people were wasting their time posting about the poor graphics and the evils of sub-models, I was enjoying the gorgeous sounds of their plugins and feeling so grateful I no longer had to suffer using the load of rubbish that was being passed off as authentic models of vintage gear before they came out.
Yeah, I'm a fanboy and proud of it. Roland is one of the pioneering companies that has made tons of iconic gear like the SH 01, TB303, Jupiter 8, JX-3P, the Juno series and their line of drum machines and to say that some of the modern music made today relies heavily upon Roland gear or Roland-inspired would be a huge understatement.
I get it, you the anti-cloud complainers do not like the cloud subscription so find something better to talk about. It is really getting old at this point.

I'm no fan of Roland's Cloud, but I am sick of seeing people post bogus math followed by their dumb conclusion.
Comparing the cost of a U-He synth or other "purchase a license" synth to a subscription model is completely bogus, and if you can't figure that out, you need to go back to remedial school.
Yes, I know you get to "own" a synth at the end of some given period of time. That's a carrot Roland is using to attract people to the new trend of subscription service, and I understand that it isn't a compelling offer for many of you, or for myself. But it does not make your idiotic "math" arguments somehow add up.
You cannot formulate how much usage an average subscriber gets from the 9+ synths made available to them during that 12 month period, and yet that usage is exactly what the person is paying for, plain and simple. Posting multi-year figures for owning Roland synths against the ownership costs of other non-subscription synths is totally bogus and useless, because what people are paying for is the ability to access 9+ synths at any time during the year, NOT the carrot-dangling-ownership offered on top of that.
