Nice!! I like that there are Flatpak considerations!karrikuh wrote: Wed Aug 20, 2025 6:45 am New release 3.3.1 !

no flatpak, i didn't know there was flatpak, just the zip and install via script?karrikuh wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 8:29 pmI am able to reproduce it by running Bitwig via Flatpak. In fact, I get the same crash in Ardour if run via Flatpak.NWSM wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 6:36 am On Bitwig 5.12 in Linux (Debian 12, MX Linux, KDE, Pipwire Alsa) here:
Still Buggy...
- No presets in the preset folder,
- Want to Save a Presets it crashed everytime (but i can save it in Bitwig as a Preset)
- Open File Folder to set a Preset Folder Crash also.
Are you using Flatpak as well?
I believe the problems are due to the sandboxing imposed by Flatpak.
Update:
Tryto give the required permissions and let me know if it helps.Code: Select all
flatpak override -u --socket=session-bus com.bitwig.BitwigStudio
i reproduce an installation via the install script for 3.3.1 ./install.sh from the download folder.
- there is first a compatibility check you build in, but to go on with installation i need to exit the script via x (i think it was x oder q), then the installation goes on, thats a little stopper
- after the install process is about to finish i got this Warning:
WARNING: Cannot create symlink /home/mx/.var/app/com.bitwig.BitwigStudio/data/charlatan, path already exists

v.3.3.1
Bitwig 5.3.12 in Linux (Debian 12, MX Linux, KDE, Pipwire Alsa,X11)
Installed via unzip da ZIP -> ./install.sh right from Download Folder (then delete all files from the Download folder)
- it works, its show the new version in Bitwig Plugin list
- saving Presets works now ( goosebumps*)
- overwrite presets works as well
- a little * reminds me of changed a actual preset
issue:
- holding a note and detune (5 voices) from somewhere to 0.0 cent i have a little detuned sound left over, but the next key press change the sound to "no detune",
- the delay seems holding samples from a preview sound in a buffer? if i turned the fx OFF change the sound and turn it back on i have a delay sound from before sounds
suggestion:
- limiter/clipper/brickwall - because the distortion fast hit the limit of the human ear capacity
- macros on destination "xform skew" would be nice
- more mouse scrolling
thank you for this nice little sound toy, it is funny to build sounds with, some presets i will drop soon

Hi Karrikuh,
what i really miss in Charlatan 3 is, that for the lfos (especially in poly mode) there is no random phase option. Well - in "free" mode, there is - but these are not _really_ random over the whole span of the phase - they're somehow always quite close in value. You could remedy this, by allowing the phase of the lfo to be modulated. That way i could route the "random" mod source to the lfo phase.
Also regarding the lfos - what really would be a creative advantage would be an "increment" mod source. Just like the "random" mod source, which puts out just one value per key stroke/per note-on, this one would do so, too - but in fixed values, where each note-on simply increments the fixed value in percentage, defined by the amount one sets up. So essentially, when i play a 3 note chord, and i have the "increment" mod source routed to the lfo in polyphonic mode, each note triggers the phase of the lfo in a fixe offset in percent defined by the amount i set up. This, when reached the maximum of the phase parameter, just "cycles" through from the beginning. I use this feature in Vengeances' Avenger all the time - it's extremely useful. Essentially this would "strum" the lfos phase, even though i play the chords' notes at the same time. I hope i was understandable.
What do you think - could you implement this mod source along with the the ability for the lfo phase to be modulated?

Any update maybe regarding a macOS version? This synth sounds really nice. I read the intro post, just curious if there may be a chance.

I'm not ruling it out entirely, but nothing planned in the foreseeable future, sorry.llze wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:47 pm Any update maybe regarding a macOS version? This synth sounds really nice. I read the intro post, just curious if there may be a chance.

I did a lot of foundational work in this area (i.e. Vulkan stuff) throughout the past months and think I tackled the hardest part by now. There's still a lot left to do, though, which will take a couple more months to complete (depending on personal priorities which are subject to change).audiojunkie wrote: Wed Aug 20, 2025 3:50 pm When do you plan on adding those visual changes you spoke about for us high resolution monitor users?![]()

This is expected behaviour. Osc phases are reset only at the start of a new note.NWSM wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 9:12 am issue:

Ah, thank you for spotting! This also affects the Reverb. Will be fixed.NWSM wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 9:12 am - the delay seems holding samples from a preview sound in a buffer? if i turned the fx OFF change the sound and turn it back on i have a delay sound from before sounds
I do plan to add some kind of dynamics processorr to the Master FX chain eventually. For now, you could of course just add a dedicated limiter plugin in your DAW's track/master FX chain, which is probably a good idea anyway.NWSM wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 9:12 am suggestion:

Noted as suggestion, to be decided on.
What are you still missing?

I don't know how the situation is on Windows, which is what I use normally. Just now I could only try on a machine using KDE neon (Linux, Wayland) and the mousewheel doesn't act on any knob, slider or dropdown menu. This is both true for the CLAP and VST3 plugins.

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem with a neon Live Image + Reaper in a VM.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Sep 17, 2025 7:18 am I don't know how the situation is on Windows, which is what I use normally. You did try the very latest version 3.3.1 of Charlatan, right?
Does the mouse wheel work everywhere else in your setup (DAW, other plugins, other applications)?
Which DAW/host are you using?

Thanks for taking your time trying to reproduce. It seems it was my issue.
This below happened once now because I was pressing keys too fast. Probably it happened before and that's why I ended up with the old version (?)
The dropdown menus (e.g. OSC wave, Filter type, XMod type, Voice Mode, Distortion type...) don't work with the wheel as they do on e.g. U-he's plugins. The OSC wave and filter type have arrow buttons, so they still are ergonomic. Probably this is what the previous poster was meaning.

The new version has the sliders and knobs working, which makes it completely usable for my workflow. Thumbs up.CLAP plug-in will be installed to /home/rafagago/.clap
VST3 plug-in will be installed to /home/rafagago/.vst3
Factory presets will be installed to /home/rafagago/.local/share/charlatan
WARNING: Existing Factory presets will be overwritten!
To prevent data loss, backup your presets directory before proceeding.
Do you want to continue with installation? ([y]es or [N]o):
Installation canceled.

I've been recently creating stuff with an old v1 Synthedit and while trying to resemble the Yamaha EX5 AWM+VA i've found it hard to reduce the CPU demand on my Ryzen 5600 but of course it's Synthedit and i'm limited by its own sf2 player.
( Screenshot: https://files.soniccdn.com/imagecache/1 ... 37315.jpeg )
But the question is... Could an sf2 or sfz player be included as an oscillator waveform?
I think it's something "easy" to add without conflicts, and would open to a whole new segment of sound design while keeping it as easy & fun as it is now.
I'm not suggesting to add a mapping editor with crossfades & grain/loop settings to the interface. But of course, that's something still possible.
I think that some kind of wavetable was in the oven... Maybe also "rompler" base would be a great addition.
