Yeah, maple will actually be even a bit mellower. Anyway, I was just trying to help you cure your GAS.hibidy wrote:My Carvin has ebony which iirc it pretty bright and snappy. I'm just not 100% sure.

The Holdsworths are the only ones I've heard good things about. My Carvin's pickups were terrible but that was the 80s.

Oh my god! The Carvin pups I have in my "goldtop" are tasty! No really, no bullshit, they are terrific!
But the "Keisel" edition pups are eminent. They are very popular amongst the studs who have been able to preview them. BUT, they are not currently available in a 6 or 7
What I was wondering, since I'm 90some percent sure of what I want, is mayby I should "option 50" some other pups with the specs I want. Again, it's just yak at this point............

My Eddie Durham jazz box arrived today.
Off the charts. This thing is rocking my jazz world. I find the tone more pleasing then a gibson L5 and on par with a D'angelico EXL. Too busy playing to comment further.

Not sure how I got on their list, but a couple of times a year I get the Carvin catalog in the mail. One of these days I'm going to have to break down and buy one of those puppies. Beautiful stuff.Uncle E wrote:I wonder if you'll like a maple fretboard? The extra chime and glass is really pretty sounding clean but it can be edgy through high gain, at least compared to a rosewood fretboard.hibidy wrote:My Carvin gas is off the hook.......not sure I can contain it much longerI'm starting to justify it
Little games like......."well, they won't finish it until next year" and "your spending account is much higher this month and "well, you can sell off a bunch of plugins really cheap at KVR to pay for it when it done
Must...........enjoy..............what...........I have.............

If you're sticking to Dimarzio then IMHO Crunchlab and Luiqifier just work well as do the D'activators AFAIK

The new Dimarzio PAF Master seems cool. Paul Gilbert made a demo video that sounds vintage and shreddy at the same time, pretty cool:
I like the Dimarzio Norton for an EVH sound. I like the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 for souped up Les Paul tones.

Yep Gilbert whom I love/is one of my guitar heroes, Doesn't use that much gain. So it means his stuff is all in the precision, dexterity and strength, So whilst he makes a vintage/classic pickup and moderately driven laney VC or Marshall JVM sound killer...Us mere mortals wouldn't have as much luck.
If your going Seymour then I'd suggest the Black Winter or Nazgul at the bridge and a Sentient in the neck.
Still I do urge you to just suck it up and invest in what Bareknuckle offer, The price is definitely worth it and the same goes for Lundgren pickups also. You want the best right to put in a pricey guitar? So why not drop in what it requires?
Course a 7-string model of the Distortion at the bridge and a 7-string custom custom at the neck would/does sound killer IMveryhumbleHO.
I'm certain you'll find a set that works with the guitar just the way you want them to hibidy. It's really good how spoilt for choice we are hey? That's what makes it so much more fun
