Hi again,
Just posted the 5th Bank of the series, this time more experimental, focused more in Fx Risers, Drops, Wobble sequences kinda the dubstep way,and even the key presets or other more ''normal'' are presented heavily delayed ( simulated of course) or heavily processed.
With this bank you might want to start with only one key pressed, usually 5th or 4th octave, but there are also
''normal'' presets witch work the classic way : just throw a midi at them or better if you have a keayboard.
I am quite happy with these one, pushed charlatan a little more.
Have fun

Downloaded it but im still looking for proper time to check it.
But I think I will feel worthless again like i did when I heard the other four
How do you even start? With a idea, some presets, where?

I usually start with the sound I hear in my head. Then you try to recreate it in the synth. If that helps. You can't create what you can't hear or imagine in your head, at least. it's the same with drawings.

I think there is no strict formula about this, you just observe how every knob and slider infuences the whole sound, once this is done for some time your subconcious will tell you what ''next'' move might spice up what you already have, and if you really are passionate about this results will come.K82 wrote:Downloaded it but im still looking for proper time to check it.

At the begining i thought ( when was a preset addict) i couldn't get much different kind of sounds from charlatan, given the simple modulation options, but guess what after the 5 banks i could still put together 2 or 3 other banks today, who knows tomorrow. And not talking just about obvious variations.
You just notice things like, for ex if you want to make a simple key preset feel more organic, not so dry, like you are applaying delay or reverb, then you know you can push the release slider up until you find the sweet spot.
Its like someone who writes books, all he uses is those few letters the alphabet has, and yet out of those few letters, thanks to different combinations thousends of different books, of different genres come out.
I have often experimented taking effects off from pro synths and comparing or trying to recreate with charlatan, and my humble opinion is many of their sounds are charlatan with effects, of course exluding heavily modulated sounds given the limited options of charlatan compared to their mod matrixes.
Anyway , i would like to know if you guys find useful any of these presets ,or if i should stop this every 2 days Banks posting ''madness'' ,or maybe have a break
PS. By the way DuX i really like you having as signature a quote from a great soul like Krishnamurti.

timius and dux thank you for the inspirational words about your approach to making synth sounds. and timius if you like making those banks keep doing it. im seriously impressed with what you achieved in 8 months of trial and error. some great banks for
when i need inspiration. i will try to tempt myself not to use any and make some myself but i dont promise anything yet ; ) . one more question, what did you use timius to get the fxp's in one single fxb?

I don't use Win 8 and don't have access to Live 8 64-bit since there is no 64-bit demo available. I quickly checked with latest Live 32-bit demo on Win 7 and everything seems fine. I'm afraid that right now, there's not much I can do here, sorry.zeep wrote:Maybe i'm not running the latest version but this plugin guarantees a Live 8 crash when in use. Win 8 64 bit.

... or you can put the excellent TAL Chorus-LX after it in the chain.

Oh yea I have a few dozen plugins I could slap behind Charlatan but the point is that those effects can not be saved as part of a patch. To me effects are just as much a part of a synth's architecture as LFO's or Env's....a delay line playing off an LFO to Cutoff for example....I get bored pretty quickly with bone dry patches......

good points teksonic. sometimes i wish my Akai AX80 hardware synth had a built in chorus like the juno 106. i think its succsess would have been greater. people would judge it on its bone dry sound. yet in respect to charlatan, it doesnt bother me as much because my default energyXT2 seq has a chorus with the "sweet" settings already applied to it. after the seq loads i tweak it afterward to fit the song tempo etc.... it comes down to prefrence really, some people like crackers. some people like crackers that come with cheese spread in a small section of the packaging.Teksonik wrote:Oh yea I have a few dozen plugins I could slap behind Charlatan but the point is that those effects can not be saved as part of a patch. But if you want different effects for each patch ? Different delay times for each instance of Charlatan for example. Distortion on a bass patch chorus on a lead patch etc. The point is that it makes sharing patches much easier if the effects are built in. Don't want the effects? Turn them off or don't use them. Prefer other third party effects? Swap them out before using a patch to compose. Having effects as part of the synth's architecture allows you to modulate parameters much easier than using your host and again those modulation settings can be shared in a patch or bank of patches.layzer wrote:or you can use the effects send bus to route them all to a single instance of each effect?
For example imagine how the great patch banks that timius has shared would benefit from from chorus, delay, or reverb and what he could have done with those added parameters.......really expands the sonic capabilities.
