Good stuff, Ingo. Thanks for posting. That brass would make a great bass!Ingonator wrote:i just created a few audio demos of some presets i had created with Element.
Oh boy, another VA synth. This time from Waves!

Hmmm, interesting. I'm gonna have to listen for this. I too, am running 44.1 so that I can do more real-time stuff. Lots of buses and a real-time mastering chain. All on a water-cooled i7 3770k.Sendy wrote:I was hearing aliasing on the FM/Phasemod stuff at 41khz 32 bit. I won't run at a higher samplerate because I like to be able to use a lot of stuff. I'd post a demo but I've uninstalled the Waves stuff.

It is just the inevitable tradeoff for low cpu use... it takes brute force cpu cycles to not have the sound degrade at the extremes.ariston wrote:Well, here's a quick patch I cooked up. There's some heavy hands-on modulation going on, and it's not a pleasant listen - but it's not meant to be. Just turn down your speakers/headphones - you've been warned!jalcide wrote:
Really? I'm not hearing this. Just the opposite, actually. You mean aliasing? If so, I don't hear any. Not meaning to put you on the spot, but is there an example preset that exhibits what you're not liking? I'm genuinely curious.

I'm taking parameters such as PWM, FM, Sine mod and high resonances to extremes. It's an MP3, albeit high quality, so yeah, but I recorded it at 96000 and 24 bit. There is no distortion used, and I've got it on the HD setting.
I know these are not your average sounds, and most will probably never enter this unspeakable realm, but there you are. This kind of modulation sounds better (and is thus actually usable) in Diva, Synth Squad etc...
One thing I've noticed is that the resonance behaves strangely... it's like it enters self-resonance territory pretty quickly, then leaves it again at higher settings. Is that on purpose? Is it "more" analogue? I truly don't know, because I really ain't such a synth fanatic, believe it or not.

Thanks for your comment. It's a open secret that i love doing Synth Brass sounds. There is rarely any soundbank where i did not make at least one.jalcide wrote:Good stuff, Ingo. Thanks for posting. Element seems to work very well for this kind of sounds. BTW that preset is at an octave setting of 16' so it is more or less like a bass.

I think that Ultra Analog is one of the best synths for brass sounds...Ingonator wrote: It's a open secret that i love doing Synth Brass sounds. There is rarely any soundbank where i did not make at least one.![]()

There's some wonderful sounds that can be pulled out of that synth..
One of the most under-rated soft synths out there I reckon..
I judge these synths and sounds on how they affect me emotionally and Element just didn't do it for me
But it's good that everyone's tastes are different because if we all painted pictures with the same colours, the lansdcape would be a little boring

So... I tried it. Yeah, the download/authorization is a bit of a pain, but not too bad. No issues.
I like it. Much better sounding, IMO, than Saurus. Reminds me a bit of UltraAnalog, but it's got the mod matrix I always wished for... nothing new in terms of "virtual analog" sound though, but a solid low resource VA instrument IMO. A decent number off cool features to keep things interesting but still simple enough to work quickly in. I'm not sure why they skimped on the effect controls, but others have pointed that out. Maybe a later update? Definitely worth the $70 it's being sold at... though with a pretty full instrument folder and a number of hardware synths I may pass anyway. Nice showing though. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something inexpensive but good.
I want to amend my post. I went back to it today... to find an error telling me I had no license. The machine was now off line... does that mean I have to be on line to use it? No go. A bit later in my session after Live rejected the plug, it crashed, which is super rare especially considereing what I was doing. Uninstalled and not recommended.

I wouldn't say really better than Saurus but it sounds different.subsynq wrote:Sounds even better than Saurus but...

Anyway it's a matter of taste i guess.
Thanks for your comment. Funny that most comments are about that specific preset.Crackbaby wrote:Thanks for the audio demos Ingo! fantastic Brass
I plan to do a bunch more of that kind of sounds, either reprogramming famous ones and also doing new ones. This one is somewhere in between. Had some paramater in mind and then tweaked a bit, especially with the envelope shape values and the filter parameters.
In former times synths like e.g. Jupiter 8, Oberheim OB-8/X, Matrix 12, Memorymoog and Prophet 5 seemed to be the kings of such sounds and the corresponding emulations (e.g. Diva, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Sonicprojects OP-X Pro II, Arturia Prophet V, Arturia Oberheim SEM V) could do a good job too. Also Xils Synthix (= Synthex emulation) is nice for those.digitalboytn wrote:

Anyway Element seems to sound just right for that type of sounds and features like DCO/VCO switch and adjustable envelope shape help with that.
Ultra Analog is nice indeed but along the many choices available we all got our favorites.

Wasn't there a thread not long ago with a poll of high cpu synths vs low cpu synths? One third wanted low cpu synths ... so i guess Waves made a good choice?

I would not say it's very low on CPU (especially with Pads) but it uses a reasonable amount and so far no preset killed my CPU, even in HD mode.Crackbaby wrote:Wasn't there a thread not long ago with a poll of high cpu synths vs low cpu synths? I'm quite enjoying playing with the demo of this.
I like to look at the waveforms of a new synth and in this case they are, shall we say, 'slightly unconventional', which is no doubt contributing to the character of the sound. I have made a little video:

I noticed that, too, while I was pushing it to extremes yesterday. It's a really big factor, and it does give Element its special character. Within a certain tonal range, it sounds a lot better than Z3ta 2 to my ears, while getting similar timbres.lnikj wrote:I'm quite enjoying playing with the demo of this.

Damn, I hate to say it, but I've spent so much time with it now... it's starting to grow on me. Don't laugh.

Those look interesting indeed. Just starting to create some WAV files (single cycles) to be used as filter responses in Rayblaster. Would be interesting to see how they perform compared to the waveforms/responses i had created from many other of my synths.ariston wrote:I noticed that, too, while I was pushing it to extremes yesterday. UPDATE:
finished doing waveforms (single cycles) of the LP filter. The resonance behavior of the 12dB and 24dB filter seems to be quite different. I would even say those are different filter models, not just different slopes.
