Says the man who rudely spoke to the dev of Synthmaster crying for a refund even though you had it for more than 2 months. that's just not cool man. Then after he gives you a refund you go back and edit all your post saying it's a great synth, yada yada. You know, people might not like my opinion but at least I will stand by it.Apostate wrote:I'd be astonished if anyone here (besides those directly involved) gave a rat's ass about this portion of the topic.Pyrotek45 wrote: You're doing everyone on these forums a disservice when you do not read the whole thing.

That link provides a very interesting insight into Apostate's character...
Like you say,it's all there in black and white for the world to see...
Maybe this is a good time for Apostate to get off his soap box and get back into his little box ?
Synthmaster is a great synth that's getting better by the minute and as that post clearly shows,Bulent is a man of integrity and honesty...
He was the clear winner in that interaction with Apostate....
Apostate seems to have been eating a little too much popcorn and it's affecting his mind

Guys, this thread has remained civil for over 9 months. Can we keep it that way?

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

You could set up a special discount code: Something like IQ45? Sure it would ease a certain persons pain in a second and give us our deserved rest from his whining.Uncle E wrote:Guys, this thread has remained civil for over 9 months. Can we keep it that way?

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

The issue I have isn't just the sheer street price.. it is a bit more complex than that.
The issue is one of a synth with ties to a suite of synths that formerly was priced roughly around 35% more than this single synth. So, regardless of the work involved, it does seem like a cash grab by breaking apart the suite and selling individually at high price. Of course we've only seen one synth and one price for that one synth.. a lot is being assumed currently in that viewpoint.
The other issue is there are A LOT of powerful synths today that can be bought for that money. Lots of competition. What does Strobe 2 have that say Hive, Spire, or Serum (just as examples) do not?
From someone with a ton of synths already, what do they gain with this synth over what they have?
From someone just starting, why Strobe 2 versus the plethora of other synths at or under this price?
From someone with Synth Squad v1, why spend 80 here and upgrade a single synth out of the suite vs putting that money elsewhere?
I can't answer those questions for anyone but me. However, it's a big market with a lot of players, and SynthSquad had a history..

If I may:
I love Hive and I think it's incredible that u-he has squeezed such amazing sound out of so little CPU usage (the best sound to CPU usage available, IMO). However, from a UI standpoint, it's pretty complicated looking when actually it's a rather simple and somewhat limited (relatively speaking) synth. Strobe is the opposite, it has many more modulation possibilities than Hive yet it squeezes it all into a simple - almost simplistic - interface.
At the same time, I do understand why you would ask this question and why others have said they won't upgrade. In hindsight, I wish I'd requested a second oscillator while Strobe 2 was still in beta. I think that one simple thing would have made Strobe 2 into a must-have upgrade for pretty much anyone.
I'd say speed. It's a straight forward path to 90% of the sounds that people want.VitaminD wrote:From someone with a ton of synths already, what do they gain with this synth over what they have?
I'd say simplicity. The really complex modulation stuff is tucked away in the TransMod system, leaving the parameters that beginners need access to in plain view. At the same time, it can grow with them as they get more comfortable with synthesis. From someone just starting, why Strobe 2 versus the plethora of other synths at or under this price?

Mostly the sound, Strobe 1 is a bit dull and unclear sounding in comparison. Also, it's more of a performance synth now with all the Fusor functionality built-in.From someone with Synth Squad v1, why spend 80 here and upgrade a single synth out of the suite vs putting that money elsewhere?

I think you've got yourself into a bit of a pickle here as a company due to prior pricing policies and I appreciate that you are probably now trying to change things in this unbundling operation.
You are in the company of a bunch of companies (no pun intended) such as Waves and IKM, who have historically released products at high prices and then massively discounted them on a regular basis later. Once this behaviour gets entrenched in the customer's mind then they are likely to sit on the fence and wait for a deal to come along at some later date.
If I was convinced that there will NEVER be a SS2 bundle (again, your company has a history of bundles), or that Strobe 2 will NEVER get some 60% off price reduction (again ...), then I would simply buy it without hesitation. [I respect developers that don't do sales, because it doesn't irritate loyal early adopters; however such companies usually combine such a policy with introductory discounts, which is not evident here.]
The exceptions to the rule of waiting for a deal, for me at least, are when something is released that is (for me) a 'must have' now, something that really stands out. (Reaktor 6 is a recent example in my case.) Strobe 2 doesn't quite fit in that category (for me), though it clearly does for others here. I do think though that it is a great synth (chapeau!); I have demoed it and like many Rolandesqe synths, it is almost impossible to make it sound bad, it is easy to use, has a great interface, and it does have a lot of extras under the hood too. The market for Rolandesque synths, or high end VAs in general is, however, already overpopulated with great offerings as others have noted.
I think what I am reading from snippets through this thread is that in splitting the bundle and developing the synths separately you are attempting to break from prior pricing policies? [There's the question in my post I guess ??]
As I own a great deal of the rest of your catalogue (I have been a customer since early Guru days) I will probably buy it anyway, in my case mainly for the excellent resizeable interface, but in the (possibly folorn) hope that I am reading what you are doing correctly and I will not be sitting around in a few months staring at some face-slapping deal or bundle that I should have waited for.
[@Uncle_E ... adding that second oscillator might well push Strobe 2 from the 'difficult to make sound bad' to the 'rather easier to make sound bad' category]
TL;DR: Potentially classifiable as "asswhining" (pace SJ_Digriz).
