Any update maybe regarding a macOS version? This synth sounds really nice. I read the intro post, just curious if there may be a chance.

I'm not ruling it out entirely, but nothing planned in the foreseeable future, sorry.

Ok, quite sad, as it's a really great sounding synth. Do you use a specific framework or all by hand, I mean if you could compile a beta version just to see if it works, I'd be happy to test it. I thought going for CLAP could ease things in porting maybe? Sorry for bothering

I'm using my own homegrown framework. Plugin standards like VST/CLAP only handle the communication to the DAW (i.e. audio/MIDI/automation data), but for the UI and everything else where you interact with the OS platform you need a separate abstraction layer.

It would be great to mimic the Roland D50 or Yamaha EX5 combining synthesis methods but without the massive amount of controls they have. In that way, Charlatan 3 has enough modulators to keep it expressive and shape layers. And sf2 is not as chaotic as SFZ.
By overriding envelope, lfo & effects, sf2/sf3 is a single file that allows for multiple banks of multisamples, SFZ is limited to One single map, and there is not a clear spec to mappings.
Maybe a SF2 player combining S+S is not the idea of a simple sample tool, but there's an empty niche of S+S romplers in VST3, as most of them rely on Kontakt, Hise or other complex Rompler engines multiGB based libraries. We have been running away from romplers since late 90's, and the ones available today are midiplayer oriented, but there's a lot of hits from the 90's that tells a different tale, designing a sound with a real instrument base sometimes create iconic sound like Robert Miles "Children" piano created with a Kurzweil.
Anyway, it'd be nice to taste that early sampler project.

What are you still missing?

- Mouse-over short Info (could be helpful here and there)
- Hz and Note globally (like frequency in filters, could be nice to adjust frequence to C or F without doing frequency math)
- i would like modulate each RATIO with different Mods, actually i can just use ONE Modulator for all or can Stack multiple Mods, i could walkaround by modulate the value of stacked Mods but that is more complicated
- xform grid: please let us set up the Grid in different measures for each xform modulator, for now the grid changes every xform modulator
- randomizer =)

minor Issue, optimizations, easy life:

- optimize the modulation window (smaller edges self adjusting height)
- UNIP and MONO are grey but is actually activated (should vice versa right?) i expected the light on means activated
- if i right click on a Number in Modulators i see the Destination, i would like to have this on the whole field, so i don't need to be accurate with mouse pointing
- xform draw - i would separate "DRAW and Forms", Draw Icon to the left side
- macros on envelope parameters (i tried to macro the sustain of an envelope, nice for rhythmic modulations, maybe i miss some internal cross modulations that could solve it)
- pop-up field of percentages should not cover other fields (like x-mod cover Mod Type)

Maybe you could add something cool to DecentSampler, which has a lot of basic capability, but more is always better. I enjoy havin Charalatan my linux tools. Thanks for sharing your work.

Most of the actual "samplers" require an insane amount of CPU per layer even on updated systems, and in the event of using 4 to 8 layers playing crosfaded zones, you can find up to 10% per voice, an absurd ratio. I know sometimes quality is important, but it's something to discuss out of this thread. Romplers have a lot to improve, and of course not everyone needs Omnisphere or Falcon.

For Presets i would like to have Subfolders. Actually i only have "presets".
I can not put a folder in the same path as presets nor into presets, it will not shown.

would it be possible to add a "constant" parameter to the mod source dropdown? Which sends a static value between -1 and 1?
The reason i am asking is, that you thankfully allow for f.e. the osc levels to be extended over their knob range. And that is godsent, as this alows to feed the filters louder - which in quite some cases makes the filters not only sound even better, but also one can balance out the osc levels against the resonance (when using maximum resonance).
Now i am always using an xformer to do that - but often i miss an xformer then, as we only have four of those.
Would that be doable - what do you say?

Issue:
EVERY Grid Size Setting in MSEG/XLFO/XFORM is not saved with the Presets.
when switching through the Presets the Grid Setting is everywhere always the same from the last setting.
