Well, first we weren't expecting it to hit $99 so quick! That's a good thing. But, we're still waiting for the Infinite-encoded OWD material to come back from NI and then we can apply the new scripts with all the V-Drummy features to it and tweak it. In the meantime I am going through the Drum Masters 2 kits in this and doing some fine tuning of the kits per mapping format so they are optimized depending on whether you are playing from the keyboard or e-Drums. The cool thing about the new scripts is you can actually switch mappings on the fly and KEEP all the mix settings you made! That's convenient if you had an iMap kit and you decided you wanted to use it in GM but didn't want to have to dial in all the settings again. BUT, as starting points there are different things we can do under the hood (such as combining ghost notes of the snare into the bottom velocities of the snare for e-Drummers - otherwise those ghost note hits would be skipped and that'd be a waste! - this was in response to some e-Drummists requests on Vdrums.com) and you'll have patches saved back ideal for keyboards and patches saved back ideal for V-Drums/e-Drums.

Anyway, back to the question... It will be before December 30th unless there's a hitch. I'd say some time in the next two weeks. I had a few delays in the past few days that I had to tend to so I am still working on getting individual audio demos together for the Drum Masters kits and then tomorrow we start doing video demo work and next week I hope to do some V-Drum/e-Drum in action demos. All of that is going to happen before they are available.

So hang in there! You'll have it all this month and it will be awesome! (If you join!)

So, if I understand correctly, every increment of 100 to join the GB will yield extras?

That is correct! If it were to reach 1,000 - and that is a tall order but it is possible if the word was really to reach the right people... I mean, it is a big world and out however many billion people there are on the planet there are at least 1,000 people in one given month that can spend $99 on great drum sounds... not saying you can knock on the door down the street though (a VST what? A Virtual Instrument? SLAM! - the door I mean) but you know, forums, blogs, the places where people are asking and interested in this kind of stuff. The DAWS that this is a plug-in for, the communities that talk about gear, about software, sounds and e-Drums. It really is up to you. Anyway, each 100 you'll get something but if you can manage to hit 1,000 by the end of this month there is going to be something so over the top that you really will be amazed. I won't say what it is yet because I don't want to disappoint anyone if we don't reach it. But if we get close I will start to reveal it and at that point it would just be SILLY not to get it. Maybe it is already - that is for you to decide. But, either way, the more people the more goodies... and a few surprises cooking as well.

I posted this on G-slutz but figured it'd be a good encouraging read here. It's a sales pitch but there are some good points about the how and why with regard to the "rarity" of this particular bundle (not to be taken for granted):

Let's see what happens. First you have to hit 300 and your choice of EZ Player Pro or a multitrack kit from Drum Masters 2, more hybrid kits AND maybe some really ODD midi grooves too will be yours. After that plateau we'll talk about 400's goodies and so on. But of course if it reaches 1,000 which I think is our record (although the T-RackS GB was pretty big... I forget how high that reached but close) well either way if it reaches that high then we'll do some really cool things for everybody plus we'll do some random giveaways like a drum head signed by Terry Bozzio or Billy Cobham, drum sticks used by Neil Peart and things like that. We might do it even if it doesn't reach 1,000. We'll make it fun either way. Don't worry!

But, I only post on here, KVR and a bit on the VDrums forum (but less because it is stricter and some people get bent out of shape when it comes from the manufacturer vs. the users). So that means it is mostly up to you guys to find ways to reach the people that might just want in on something like this. We did our part which is put together the deal in the first place and if you only knew how lucky and difficult that was! Just imagine, Ocean Way Drums originally was ONLY $1,000-2,000 and the first convincing was to do a $199 version which is the DL Edition. A $99 product even bundled with MORE (not to mention mixing OWD with other kits from other studios) was simply out of the question! I had asked many times and been turned down. But, sometimes once in a while you can pull a favor and that's what I did. So just this ONE TIME we can do it. Then that's it. I doubt you'll see any product with Ocean Way Drum kits in it go for $99 (apart from a la carte kits) again. So, if you are into collecting Signature Drum Kits - and there will be many awesome volumes in that Drum Masters series - then I really hope you get THIS bundle because it will bring in some good mix and match kit pieces to add to the series that we won't be able to offer later and that's the 12 different mixes of OWD kits. The Drum Masters 2 kits in this will continue to be available for the Infinite Player but not these OWD kits and kit pieces so... if you can imagine making your own custom kits where you say "I think I'd like to use the Bonham-esque kick and snare from Drum Masters but a really crisp hat and cymbal combo from Ocean Way Drums here and uhhhh maybe the BIG Phil Collins style Gretsch toms from Drum Masters" and that makes up one INCREDIBLE sounding kit for your tune! It is REALLY fast and easy. But the screen capture demos will show this in action and I'll have that some time next week. So there'll be time for people to grasp that concept fully before this deal is no longer offered.

I mean, obviously our goal is to sell as many as possible - as it would be for any store. But, there's something else I am talking about and that has to do with the creative possibilities with this particular combination of sounds from different studios. In many ways it really IS the "ultimate" studio drum bundle because it includes Ocean Way Drums to mix and match with other rooms that are small to large, wood or stone, in the style of this drummer or that one... a good mix of fidelity and character in one package and I am just talking SONICALLY let alone value-wise.

Can you say a little bit more about how the various snare articulations/samples will/can be mapped to a vdrum type snare - such that you can use low velocities for the softer, ghosting sounds, to full on thwacks when you hit the snare/rim simultaneously - how does all of that port over?

Sure. I can do a bit of that here and then a much more detailed presentation is forthcoming with audio and visuals.

In the iMap which I believe is the widest amount of hit articulations you find in a single drum kit on the market today (I am pretty sure that claim is correct since no one else seems to spread individual positions of drums and performance articulations across over 60 keys except Sonic Reality) you have many different hits separated out on keys... for us finger drumming nut cases that like to cruise around and hit different expressive elements using the many MORE "trigger" possibilities of a keyboard.

So, when we are doing these V-Drums kits we want to optimize use of the samples to work with whatever the V-Drum kit can send as a controller. It does depend on WHICH V-Drum kit model you have though but we start at the top (TD20) and then if you have a TD kit or another brand e-Drum kit that doesn't do some of the things the TD20 can... well, you miss SOME features but there is flexibility still to choose how YOU want it yourself and make your own compromises (ie. if a snare pad on your set up doesn't have position sensing and you only have TWO zones - inside and rim - then you can choose which snare articulation, say center, edge or rim shot - you want to be triggered by those two zones on your pad).

Automatically though for a position sensing snare on a V-Drum set up you have CENTER round robining and the position of the drum sends a CC which our scripts read to switch to an EDGE which round robins. Then the rim shot (which sometimes has RR and sometimes doesn't as it isn't AS crucial as center/edge where you might do buzz rolls and don't want the machine gun effect that sometimes hear in the hardware module's sounds) is triggered by the rim. You can on the panel choose it to be a sidestick instead.

I can see this is going to be one of those mega posts if I continue and really a better presentation is coming. The ghost note that is usually separated in the iMap gets put back in underneath the center and/or edge hits so there is more variety of quiet hits alternating. We do that part under the hood. If for any reason you DIDN'T want that then you could load up the iMap kits and then switch it to V-Drum mapping and it wouldn't be tailored under the hood for some extra combinations like that.

I hope that makes sense! It's actually not too complicated once you get into using it. It makes a lot of sense and has a lot of possibilities for getting it to work best for you and your set up.
