They didn't model the converters, noise and probably lot of other things. I'm not sure if Dexed models the converters (and I'm not sure it models noise either) but it just sounds so much closer to me. These things are not crap in my opinion, if you're happy with more shallow level of modelling then it's ok. But for me it's not enough and I think FM8 sounds like shite if you take it as DX synth emulation, ymmv of courseTeksonik wrote: Just exactly where didn't they go "deep enough" ?

some fm synths do not change timbre when changing the pitch after the note has been calculated by the plugin. in these cases, the note stays static even when youre automating the knobs during the sustain phase.electro wrote:You have realtime control of all Dexed parameters already. can dexed do this?
my whole reason for posting in this thread is to shed more light on emulating the hardware since dexed is aiming for it.

You understand that some things aren't worth "modeling" right ? The DX sounds like shite compared to FM8.......but then ymmv............penguinfromdeep wrote:They didn't model the converters, noise and probably lot of other things. Maybe it's because I've owned a gen one DX7 that I don't care how "deep" anyone wastes their time trying to emulate it......and yes noise = crap.

Well that's your opinion, I like noise very much thank you. I think lot of things are worth modelling that developers aren't modelling right now because of cpu constraints or what not. Just because it doesn't fit into your sense of aural aesthetics doesn't mean it's redundant for other people.

It's not about my sense but common sense. Like noise ? Seriously ? Or is it just they are smart enough to know that some things aren't worth modeling ?penguinfromdeep wrote: I think lot of things are worth modelling that developers aren't modelling right now because of cpu constraints or what not.
Let me ask have you ever owned a DX7 ?

Yes, it's weird isn't it, some people like subtle noise in their tracks. Like some people like to eat cauliflower, i never understood that, I am disgusted by it's taste. And yes I do run my tracks through ancient and not so ancient hardware.Teksonik wrote: It's not about my sense but common sense. Like noise ? Seriously ? Yes, developers are smart, at least some of them. You know, lot of developers model noise nowadays, in their plug-ins (Slate Digital for example) weird isn't it? Haven't you noticed it?Or is it just they are smart enough to know that some things aren't worth modeling ?
I have TX7, now that things is quite noisy! Love it. I think it's noisier than the DX7, Never owned DX7 but have played on one on many occasions.Let me ask have you ever owned a DX7 ?

No I haven't noticed because modeling noise is silly. I wouldn't use a plugin that does.........penguinfromdeep wrote: Yes, developers are smart, at least some of them. I owned a TX as well and yes they were noisy.....which is why I sold mine shortly after buying FM7.penguinfromdeep wrote:I have TX7, now that things is quite noisy! Love it. I think it's noisier than the DX7, Never owned DX7 but have played on one on many occasions.
By the way is there a switch on Dexed to limit incoming velocity to 100 to emulate gen one DX's and to allow full velocity to emulate later versions ?
My old DX patches don't sound over driven in Dexed so I'm guessing there is some velocity limitation by default.
If anybody is interested here's the bank that was in my TX7 when I sold it. Not a "best of" bank just the patches that were in it at the time. Some are my original patches and Dexed does an excellent job of importing them as they were intended.

It might be that you already own some analog modelled plug-ins that model also the noiseTeksonik wrote: No I haven't noticed because modeling noise is silly. I wouldn't use a plugin that does.........
Best would be to have option to turn it on and off. Slate said that for example the noise is inherent part of the compression behaviour in their modelling (so it's not only a noise that you slab on top of everything else). Anyways, enough about noise let's get back to Dexed.

I'm kind of late to the Dexed party as I just downloaded it recently. Not having owned any FM hardware I cant comment on authenticity but regardless Dexed really caught my ear when going thru the presets. When comparing the same presets in FM8 I'd have to give the edge to Dexed.
It worked well in all my hosts, has a bazillion free patches, not bad on the cpu and sounds better that software I paid for.
Seems hard to ask for more.
So my thanks to the developer for sharing your efforts.

Hi,
Nice to see a very good sounding DX emulation in VST form.
Q. Is it 64-bit for Windows ? I use Cubase Pro 8 (64-bit) , and don't want to deal with any 32-bit bridging.
Just want to double check before I download, and try it out.
Thanks,
Muziksculp

As far as I can remember, BlackWinny is sifting through the thousands of duplicates. There's a note about that, somewhere in this Thread.D N A wrote:where i can find some FM7 banks ? I mean, not 35262456256 presets but some selected / grouped / ordered / without thousands of clones ?

I was just about to ask BlackWinny how this was coming along. BlackWinny please update us on your progress. Also do you have an updated Dexed_cart you can share with us?Aloysius wrote:As far as I can remember, BlackWinny is sifting through the thousands of duplicates.
