I selected the VST3 only and noticed that Saurus 4.1 installer wants to install to 'Program Files/Tone 2/Icarus3'. What's going on? :?

I think they use a wrapper around the standalone. And the main files go to program files. I'd have to check my other computer to be sure.

I uninstalled it, and when reinstalling I noticed when I tried only selecting Minimal VST3, I saw this in the popup window:

Setup type:
Minimal: VST3 plugin only

Selected components:
VST 2.4 plugin
VST 3 plugin

I thought it would only install VST3, since I didn't select VST2.
I didn't see the install to Icarus directory like you mentioned.

The installer script contained a bug. The automatic detection of the installation path could occasionally return incorrect results. It appeared only under special conditions on PC.
I have taken care of it and fixed it.

Got it! Is the setup from your site already fixed or it's coming in an yet to be released update?

It's already fixed. If Saurus is already working on your computer you don't have to do anything.

On Mac at least, the VST2 contains what the VST3 needs. The advantage is, it uses up much less space than having two self contained versions… The disadvantage for users of DAWs, that can deal with both formats, they both show up even if you want to see only one…
I suspect, in this scenario it could be even better to load the VST2 instead of the VST3, as the VST3 version doesn’t use any VST3 specific features, but maybe features VST3 does not support… Please correct me if I am wrong…
On the long term a change will be needed. I would not mind if Tone2 moves its base to CLAP and still wraps VST3 as U-He is doing it for good reasons…
