I really sympathize with the Bitwig folks. It must be brutal to spend years of your life creating an ambitious, complex piece of software, then release it and see hundreds of forum threads bluntly tearing it to shreds. I guess the only way through is to park your emotions and ego at the door and patiently grind through the issues one at a time knowing full well you won't be able to help everyone immediately.

It's shameful and at the same time typical. I myself have been enjoying the demo and once the VST multi out and groups are implemented I'll get it. I also think the Bitwig team are doing a great job of addressing issues straight away.

As a casual observer... I agree.

To make sure my personal perception of that wasn't somehow skewed, after reading some of the comments saying how they (Bitwig the company) over-hyped the product, I went back to that original "Coming Soon" web page and read it all the way through.

I was actually a little surprised on how little marketing hype was in that text. I had expected to see much more. One of the few things I saw there that was potentially hype was "World Class Instruments" or devices or something ... thinking that if the instruments actually didn't turn out to sound as good as that description it might turn out to be hype... exaggeration.

Otherwise, I didn't see very much hype there at all in that web page.
Are you talking about false advertising? Of course there wasn't false advertising, and to begin with it's illegal. People are talking about hype - commeting about what it's not in the product when relesed, restrict the information (especially about things that aren't in the products) while doing viral marketing (especially about things that are[will be] in the product), etc. It's not illegal and for example aharu is admitting it's his fault. It's companys' choice how much they use hype as their marketing.

The mistake was not to release public beta last year.
How many "serious" companies (i.e. companies planning a major software release, not your average free plugin developer) release public betas?

The answer is none.

There are lots of reasons why, one of the primary reasons being you do not want your competitors to see what you are up to. It's just common business sense.

Peace,
Andy.
*facepalm are you serious?

Yeah I'm serious.

How much do you know about testing? What software projects have you worked on?

Peace,
Andy.

Except, of course, most of the so-called 'hype' has actually originated from denizens of places like KVR who have spent the majority of the last couple of years working themselves into a frenzy over 'The Nextest Bestest Thing Evar'. Typically, of course, now that its released, those same people will now be the ones now screaming bloody murder that its too expensive, failed to be a unique first in the software world by shipping without any bugs whatsoever, and somehow didnt manage to both absolutely replicate, and simultaneously improve upon, their favorite ever feature from every other comparitive application evar, and, of course, overhyped.

And they realised they still can't write a proper tune,
which is most distressing.

but with the exactly perfect right gear, and enough time invested in post telling other people how wrong their gear actually is, dont the tunes just make themselves?

Well said. Sums it up quite nicely.

One day.. one day, the gear will be perfect; and everyone else will have bent to use the right gear as well; and there will be no more bugs; and there will be only perfect functionality: not too much, not too little; and the sun will shine eternally onto the good people making music on their computers; and the tunes will indeed be writing themselves; and there will be much rejoicing.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I facepalm ZPH, but 'none' seems wrong - this thread has thrown up Microsoft, Adobe, and Ableton as 3 big examples. Just saying, not hating.
