Hehe.. You guys are making me laugh! I'm just glad there are people around the world that hate that sound as much as I do. That sound really does define 'cheese'. I always hear it on childrens television shows and and tele-sales shows.. Its not the sound that makes it all bad, but the way in which people choose to play it. Really cheesey - like

the 80s seem like such a strange time to us mid 20-somethings. it really does...

don't get me wrong, i love tons of 80s music (huge fan of New Order, Depeche Mode, the cure and Gary Numan et al) and I have been since I was a little kid but some of those sounds that popped up in those 80s cheese ballads are just hilarious. I still can't beleive the world embraced some of these preset patches for as long as they did (there's nothing really wrong with the presets themselves, like you said, it's just how they were used and then overused in such a cheeze way).

But then, the 80s fashion is even more baffling...
