They probably have decent tacos in Waco. Here we blew them up for being a cult when they were really just a Tex-Mex grill all along.

I'd say it's more sarcastic than metaphorical. Even if it's literal, there are many cases of cults here claiming to possess the second coming of Christ so you can't call him a liar. Can anyone say Waco?
Waco's one of the best reasons to be afraid of Americans. Both parties involved.

Chase I like em too, but when I think of off-key singers, Billy Corgan definately is higher on the list than Bowie :P

Further proof that rock singing is a lot more about vocal character than hitting the right note...

God I love that song.

Fact: I tried to say that WitW would be 'our song' with my ex and she said it wasn't 'dancable'. Only now do I understand the deep-seated rammifications of such a stupid comment.

Iman wasn't even born in the US. Chase, you are too gullible. Watch out, David Bowie's coming over to kick your ass.

Debatable whether it's prevailing and dominant... but it's definitely the "red state" notion (and Arkansas is a "red state"). America is actually rather evenly split between those of us who don't see America as entitled to rule the world and those who do.

You are dead-on right that many of the people who do try to justify it through Christianity. (Others try to justify it through a more secular notion of "Manifest Destiny"). A true follower of Christ, though, should puke (at least figuratively) at the notion of U.S. imperialism in the name of Jesus.

Excellent Bowie analysis, Tankgirl.

No, you are absolutey right ccollinsmith, the populace is split. Hope I didn't offend. But those ideas still remain dominant until you get around to voting the Christian right out of the White House.

Post

OK make that the Christian-right out of the White House. Ha.
