Fax - I appreciate your compliments on my GUIs.

I would advise not thinking like that. You'll paint yourself in a corner eventually, imHo.

Jack - downloaded GGN and a bunch of the others earlier today. Played with them a little but I'm in more of a dark ambient texturey soundscape mood than a glitch mood at the moment. That said, next time I want glitch I'll head back to them.

UIs - I don't mind the anime chicks for the most part. Obscure names for the controls, not my thing (I tried going down that road myself with Tiny Distort, and I now owe the world a version with better control names), but the tooltips help a bit. Perky, on the other hand, is over the line for me. :)

DualTrashers - seemed like they weren't outputting anything at all until I adjusted the shapers(Audiomulch).

As far as feeling the love goes, you can't expect too much. There are dozens of freebie VST devs out there, there are only so many hours in the day to surf KVR and play with the toys. If I'm thinking about writing you a nice email and the wife asks me to clean the kitchen so she can start dinner, I'm afraid you're going to come second.

For what it's worth, my most rewarding development was on Meridian, and that was because I posted an early version, asked for feedback, revved it many times in a short period of time. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the interactions. It didn't translate into a lot of sales or a lot of post-release hype, but that's how I'll do it next time.

I am working on a VST called "The Hands Of Darkness" that I think you'll enjoy.

>Obscure names for the controls, not my thing

That's just my paranoia, I'm about to grow out of that.

>Perky, on the other hand, is over the line for me.

Suprisingly, aside from EVP Enhancer MK1, Perky! is my most popular download. I would've never guessed that.

>DualTrashers - seemed like they weren't outputting >anything at all until I adjusted the >shapers(Audiomulch).

That's because the first preset is "clean slate", try the other presets!

>There are dozens of freebie VST devs out there, there >are only so many hours in the day to surf KVR and >play with the toys.

This is true. But when I put out a plug that weighed about 1.5 megs and it's been downloaded a gigabyte of times over the weekend with nearly zero feedback, well, it made me pissy.

Damn good advice, I appreciate that. Thanks for your opinions and words of wisdom.

i am among those who downloaded but had not written in because didnt get the chance to try it until today, and even then it was only briefly. im not much into glitch, but i had fun with it. actually, i was experimenting with running the same material through glitchgirl, glitchtronik, and shattershot lite (all downloaded yesterday)...all at the same time...sometimes in series, sometimes parallel. at times, i threw a few other effects in there as well. quite the mangle-fest.

i have to agree with borogove though about the control names. something a bit more descriptive would be helpfull when trying to tweak it. even though i tend to let my ears guide me, the more of a clue i have about what a control might do, the faster i can get the results im looking for.

and by the way...i dig the anime guis.

well, in light of your feedback vacuum, I'll post some thoughts:

• haven't had a chance to download GG-Neo yet, but it sounds good, so I will soon. can't guarantee I'll get to play with it anytime soon, but you can rest assured that I will.

• purchased Battery Acid recently and have been touting its sublime brutality to all my known noise/glitch/experimental cohorts. I'm working on a track now that has 4 instances of Battery Acid running on various percussion elements. top notch stuff.

• have downloaded Glitchtronik, Mister Liquid, Bit Basher and the first Glitch Girl. Glitchtronik I haven't had the chance to really explore, so I'll reserve comment for later. Mister Liquid I wasn't fond of. You and I likely have different ideas of what we would call "HydroVerb" and I didn't really find it bubbly or aquatic. That said it was still a decent effect, but didn't have a place among my usual effects. Glitch Girl I didn't use very much because I found it difficult to dial in the precise sound that I wanted, and generally used the presets as incidental effects in percussion pieces. Bit Basher was just redundant in that there are effects native in Buzz (shush, haters) that are almost identical.

• I would be the proud owner of Pitchslap as well, but that I fear for my life whenever I divert funds from bills and groceries to software (let my wife find out about Battery Acid and I'm a dead man for certain).

• I'm on the fence about the GUIs. on one hand I find them striking and beautiful and easy on the eyes. on the other hand its hard to work on music with your less decent plugs and my 9 year old coming into the studio every 5 minutes.

• normally when I work on percussion-related pieces which would call for this sort of glitchiness, I'm working in Buzz which does have a stable of native bitcrushers, degraders and distortions that negate the need for most any other similar effect. Battery Acid, however, has become my first go-to plugin for that particular effect. so allow me to extend my appreciation (in addition to the cash that I hope you promptly reinvested in your favorite vice) for such a fine plugin.

now that that is out of the way, I'm going to download my free copy of GG-Neo.

I can see your point to a degree but I tend too like working within certain limits and constraints myself.
I have VERY few instruments and only a handful of VST effects + Audio editor.
Personally I like to see how far I can push what I have before I venture on to other pastures.
This does not mean I may not d'load your creations or anyone elses at a later date.
At the moment I enjoy exploring what I have.
When I feel I've exhausted those options I know I have dev's work like yourselves to explore and look forward too in the future  .

UGO ->im not much into glitch, but i had fun with it. actually

i am glad you had fun with it. i'm about burnt out on glitch myself, actually. one more glitch plug from me, and then i'm sticking a fork in it.

ugo ->with running the same material through glitchgirl, glitchtronik, and shattershot lite (all downloaded yesterday)

using the bypass knobs on all those plugs you could possibly achieve a nice mix of all their best assets... theoretically at least. ;)

ugo ->the more of a clue i have about what a control might do, the faster i can get the results im looking for.

understood and taken to heart.

ugo ->and by the way...i dig the anime guis.

thanks, there will be more, but there will be... other things as well... not "XXX" related. and you know your GUIs are ultrafantastic.

--

intel ->purchased Battery Acid recently and have been touting

i am very happy that Battery Acid has served you so well! :) i hope that you've given Dual Trashers a run, they compliment eachother well imHo.

intel ->Mister Liquid I wasn't fond of.

most folks aren't, it's the least popular download i have. that's okay though, i like the swooshing stuff it does enough to use it myself fairly often. :D

intel ->Glitch Girl

i'll be the first to say the original GlitchGirl sucked. hence why i came full circle and completely redesigned the plug for GlitchGirl-NEO, which now, i feel does not suck at all. i hope you enjoy the new incarnation much more than the original.

intel ->Bit Basher was just redundant

true, but it was like my 2nd plug, so, ... decent for a 2nd try right? i have a new distortion plug coming soonish.

intel ->fear for my life whenever I divert funds from bills

well, if you sent money to a PO box, would that keep her from finding your PayPal statement? i'm considering alternate methods aside from PayPal for a variety of reasons.

intel ->I'm on the fence about the GUIs. my 9 year old

usually i would say "everbody you know sleeps sometimes", but, well, maybe not every has that luxory. in the future, things will work differently, for anymore hentai-esque GUI VSTs I make. i know have the knowledge to do something that will please everyone.

thanks for the feedback, appreciated! :)

Fax ->I can see your point to a degree but I tend too like working within certain limits and constraints myself. I have VERY few instruments and only a handful of VST effects + Audio editor.

your methodology is similiar to my own, i work very lean also, but i do not pass up the opportunity to upgrade my arsenal. never know when a new plug might -replace- an old favorite. it's worth testing the new guns just so you won't forget about them down the line.

my pleasure. sorry it took your diatribe to motivate me to speak up.

as for the PO Box, more payment options are generally a good thing. for obvious reasons. my wife doesn't see my PayPal statement, though. which is the only reason I can get away with such indiscretions.

Ok, Jack..I have to respond.

Dunno, I wasn't aquainted with him personally.

JackDark wrote:
what happened to all the ArcDev stuff?

The Arcdev guy enjoys his anonymity. I've spoken with him a few times via email, and at one pount, he actually asked me to NOT bump his plugs here at KVR, something I've respected and not respected on many occasssions. He seems to enjoy re-inventing himself, and as far as I know, he's rotating out the old plugs with their replacements, ie: Dubb Box ->> ET-100, and removing redundant ones or maybe even ones he's no longer satisfied with offering as a developer.

The Arcdev guy is Cool.

JackDark wrote:
why did ePhonic stop?

Openly, his reason was time, and a desire to get back to actually making music. I can relate to this as the more time I spent working inside Reaktor, the less material I actually produced. I've worked on some Reaktor instruments for weeks only to hit the delete button and bin the whole neurotic episode behind it.

I, too, would appreciate getting back to making more tracks as well.

ePhonic was/is a recipient of VAST praise here, and his 'donate' button was used more than once by at least one person I know.

why did Insert PIZ quit making fantastic synths?

I don't know, but this person was very self-effacing, and gave at least the outward appearance that he didn't take his work seriously, or as I'd rather see it, he had a great attitude about life in geeral and seemed very easy-going.

I always meant to aquaint myself with that guy, but unfortunately did not.

JackDark wrote:
what happened to Land of Cockaigne?

Legend has it that this person's activity as a developer ended with the arrival of a child in his life. I don't know for certain, but his site's still up, so someone's paying the bill. This is another HUGELY lauded developer, and when I switched from Mac to PC two years ago, the FIRST plugs that hit my newly installed VST folder were his. You can read the KVR reviews for any and all his instruments and that guy was/is a favorite, and I STILL have all his plugs. Every once in awhile, someone(many times me) openly laments losing this person in the VST community.

I'd pay through my teeth for something new from this guy. He's a fkucing LEGEND, and he damn well knows it.

would Rurik be living in a motherfucking pig farm right now if every single person who downloaded one of his plugs bothered to send him a measly five dollars? no, he'd probably own his own software company right now, making the most fantastic VSTs to ever grace our DAWs. and don't you dare say some silly shit like "he'd own a salvia farm ha ha". Rurik got beat up and thrown in a mental ward because he believed people are better then they really are, and spent his money and time persuing that dream.

And here we come to it..

Rurik is and has been one of my closest aquaintances here at KVR. The only person I'm better aquainted with here is ew, who I speak to on a regular basis by phone. I have personally 'donated' at least $200 to him, as well as 'commmissioned' him for unique plugs for myself so I could throw some cash his way.

He hated it every time I hit Paypal.

At the end of things, he was in a state of burn-out, and told me that he didn't want at that time to do any more custom work, which was shortly afterwards followed by the robbery that we all heard about.

Rurik is a functional Human Being in a non-functional Society.

If you believe that Rurik thinks that people(including you and me) are better than we really are, with all due respect(and I mean that sincerely), you weren't paying attention to what he was saying, cause what his most vocal message to us was is the simple fact that we're pig-in-shit-fkucing-animals-in-the-dirt feigning sophistication and taking the whole thing down with us in the obscenity of our existance as a species. He advocated the decentralization of Power, Money, AND Culture.

He is brilliant, and I absolutely love the guy, but until the Lobotomy, he will ALWAYS be hopelessly incongruent in an industrialized, oil-based economy, cause he's one of the few capable of percieving Just How Wrong It Is..

I watched everytime rent was due when he'd have a new chunk of genius he'd shake his ass to hopefully meet his financial obligations with, and I knew he hated every second of it, and when I could, I'd shake my ass for him, and would do it again and again and again and again, but it's a losing battle because persons of Rurik's calibre will take the same road as Tesla, dirty, broke, and more than likely alone.

But that's not our fault.

It's his for being cursed with Philosophical Genius that is on par with the Greek Tragedians.

So why have I taken the time to spam your thread and contradict you?

Because there's something important at risk here, and it's your Artistic Liberty. When you arrive at a point where dependancy from your public facilitates your own sense of value, you have made a Wrong Turn. I watched something very similar eat away at Daniel Lind, and he took a(fortunately brief, but seemingly endless) break from open dialogue with his users, only to return bigger, better, and stronger..The way I heard it, he got his heart eaten from the inside out plaugued by idiot emials from selfish users who wanted to recreate the VST world in their own image and sought to use him as a tool to accomplish that.

He overcame his ills beautifully.

And then we have you. You've attracted a significant amount of attention to your work in this last year or so, first with your music, and then with these great flashy VSTi/fx. To date I have seen little short of 100% positive reaction from people here. I have a handful of them installed; and they're cool, but I just haven't used them ina track cause I've only made two tracks in the last 4 months it seems..

Quite the contrary.

I wasn't aware that you wanted me to; my apologies. Those are your words, not mine, hence I left your response out for you to place here if desired. Knowing you wanted them included now, and because you can't quote yourself just like I couldn't, I'll post your reply here then:

I had about 30 emails with Ru myself. I sent him a Christmas present out there at that pig farm he's staying at now. (Some Hesse) I haven't sent anyone else a present this year. Not even my own mother.

Rurik may not of been financially motivated, but I remember more than once when he had a shit fit about needing money to live on. Have you forgotten the debacle over his algorithmic music machines? How pissed he was about that? I haven't. He might hate capitalism as much as anyone else does when they have "total realization", but he is its slave insofar as he chooses to be outside of a prison or an asylum. For that he needs money. He might not want to be a millionaire, but I can promise you he doesn't enjoy working for shifty ex-hippies 10 hours a day knee high in pig shit, even if he pretends to when he types a message using their computers (he's quite the paranoid, remember? {he doesn't -really- give a f**k about animals. he told me many stories about how he use to starve his cat.} he once accused me of being a rogue military computer program because i figured out his address and phone number just to freak him out, before i knew his name).

however, your Tesla referance is spot on, bravo.

good point. i have a plan now.

>Those other guys? They all had their own reasons for >staying/leaving, but their story isn't your story..

that's true. but everybody gets the soapbox once in a while. i've donated hundreds of hours of my life and a lot of $$$ to this community in freeware and a f**king "thought" isn't too much to ask. if people weren't downloading my plugs it'd be a different matter or opinion from myself.

regardless, it doesn't matter now.

i'm going to my cave to think.

i'll come back different, i always do.

i appreciate the thoughts and concern. you can post your feelings if you want, i won't take offense, i'm use to people pointing out my logical fallacies. ;)
