I agree. You'll get far more variance from even an experienced engineer tweaking the same track from one day to the next. Not to mention that that experienced engineer makes way more of a difference (worlds more) compared to an inexperienced engineer than any difference between the RTAS and TDM versions of any given plugin, or between Elephant and L2, or any other Limiters. Even more important than the engineer is the artist, his/her performance, and the song. In the end this type of thing is so insignificant. Not to say we shouldn't care, but really, let's try to have some perspective.

the "musical perspective" may be relevant (anything goes vs small differences makes the perfect mix).

but it's not the focus of this thread.
it's about obsessing over tiny differences.
it's about mulling over implementation details.
the whys and whats of said difference.
in essence, it's supposed to be anal.
hence the title.

RTAS is floating point capable, TDM is not. all TDM plugins use fixed point calculations.

You can do fixed point calc's on RTAS if you want still.. but I'd wager Waves, like many companies, is doing floating on the RTAS and Fixed on the TDM and the mathmatical differences cause some difference in sound... not that it's just the math alone, but that mathmatical problems presented may cause the company to approach the design of the algorithm differently.

I think all the plugins vere latest versions. If I recall correctly the university has that silly and expensive WUP deal with waves.

Pro Tools sucks.

I would rather play with my toaster in the pool than record with that out dated heap of code :box: :hihi:

Pooh Tools I used to call it, but it has recorded a LOT of hit records. Something to be said for that.

So has David Hasselhoff...

There is a lot of people hating Protools.I wonder why that is? Some kind of penis envy perhaps?

It isn't my first choice as a virtual instrument host.
But live recording of a band it is second to none in my opinion.Nothing is even close!!!!

I know this is the place for virtual instrument but comments like ,Protools sucks ,says more about the maturity level of the commentator than the merits of Protools.

Also known as the 'young upstart syndrome'. PT HD still has its place for sure, although nuendo/sx3/logic are pretty much equal when it comes to pure audio DAW editing. PT still has some oddities from the days of the old, like the missing interleaved stereo etc.

Haha..

Yeah, Mine is bigger than yours :)

It's used a lot but that doesn't make it better, it's quite antiquated and hasn't really gone forward. At the end of the day though, whatever works... works.
I'm not really that against it but I'm definately the first to suggest something else.

I wish I could afford a PTHD and a toaster and a pool and be able to record with that out-dated yet ingenious code :box: :hihi:

Smilies add context, I was obviously just saying it to rark someone up.
The second comment is a truthful statement... no emoticons at all.

Nice one, why.. yes it is.

You're just jealous cos Chickenman is a much better name than Cameraman
