Well my list has stuff, that're rebuilts who're done by specsheets, careful coding, etc and still they don't sound like the original, cause you can't rebuild analog stuff with software on bits/bytes base.
If it's an alternative, like the Voltkitchen stuff (which is a careful rebuilt) - then it's for the list. If not, then not.

thanx very much for the update ...
it would be helpful if you could change the file name on each update so people can keep track of which version we're at, and which is which. I for one, download a lot of free/beta synths and it's difficult to keep up sometimes ...

I don't mean to be negative or anything, but am I wrong in spotting this GUI is practically verbatim identical to Arturia's MiniMoog V?
I'm gonna download and try this later on when I'm not at school. But yeah just thought it curious the uncanny resemblense.

It's correct that the very comparisons that seek to show how much the MiniMogue sounds like the real thing mostly show that it doesn't sound like the real thing. It's really good, but not the same.
It all depends what you want from a recreation.
1. The closest possible match.
2. Not a perfect match, but genuinely good. I think in a lot of cases, you could use a MiniMogue instead of the real thing and people that know the Moog would say, "That's a Moog!"
3. Something that is inspired by an instrument, but isn't really there. Can still be a useful instrument, but lots of people could tell, even in a mix, that it's not the real thing.

If even the Minimonsta (which got Rick Wakeman's approval, and he's been using the Minimoog since 1971) doesn't meet the standards for a digital rebuild, then nothing will. All of this really depends on whether you are approaching the Minimoog from a labcoat perspective, or from a musical perspective. I think for the purposes of the targeted audience (i.e. musicians), most of these softsynths that aim to emulate the Minimoog do a pretty good job from a musical point of view, and that's how they should be approached.
