Quite impressed by the sound quality and the tweakability so far. Much fun to use.
I'm scratching my head about the EQ section though:
Is there any trick involved to get the mid band of the EQ working like one woulf expect?
As far as I can see, the Freq&Boost knobs have only some effect, when as well the Low Shelf has a value other than default. Seems a little weird.

They're working here. However, they're pretty subtle and the midband tends to fall in the same range as the cutoffs for the filters. Try it with no filters...

Still quite weird behaviour, this interaction between low shelf and mid band, don't you think?

You'll also see the same with the high shelf turned up. I'm guessing they use some pretty non-standard points for the shelving, like maybe below 500 Hz for the low shelf and above maybe 2k for the high shelf. Then, if the midband's wide enough (which I'm thinking it is), you'll get the interaction you're seeing.

High cpu consumption isn't a plus anyway. There are comparable synths with much less CPU hit. Komplexer and Sylenth for an example. Those can be used on such "weak" cpu without choking it. Even on a more powerfull machine it's better to have less cpu power related worries than more. Are you sure about the high shelf? Using the init patch (and just to make sure turned the filters off), when the Low shelf is set to center position (zero/default), I can set the high shelf to any value and still the mid band doesn't do anything. Not sure about your assumption about the non-standard points for shelving. I mean, no matter what frequencies the low and high shelf work at, the boosting or cutting of some mid frequencies should always affect the sound more or less.
To me it seems that either the mid band is a filter in a feedback path of the low shelf band (which would be a quite esoteric design), or it's indeed a bug, where by accident they coupled the readout of the low shelf knob and the mid boost knob.
Would be interesting to get some comment on the EQ design from the programmer(s) of Massive.

OK ten minutes with fm8 was a lot better - OK i thought this ispretty much the same synth initially - OK some new fx but ican put them on afterwards - some better modulation options but nothing making me go ooo

On further investigation and using an analyser for visual feedback, I found out that the design of the EQ is indeed very esoteric...
The Low Shelf knob, while boosting or cutting low frequencies, at the same influences the function of the 'mid band':
-- Low shelf in center position menas Mid band is flat.
-- Low shelf turned to the left means Mid band becomes a Notch if you want so, or in other words, the Low Shelf knob sets the negative gain for the Mid band Peak at the same time.
-- Low Shelf turned to the right at the same time sets the positive gain of the Mid band Peak.
-- The 'Boost' knob does nothing but set the width (or Q if you want so) of the Mid band peak.
-- Frequency knob, well, sets the frequency of the Mid band Peak.
