Is that an out-take from 'Red Telephone' by Love??But a flower is not as beautiful as a painting,
a waterfall is not as beautiful as a symphony.
You've got that backwards.
Then why don't you have an iPod full of waterfalls?
i dont have an ipod...
Set Theory claim:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate.
Red is Red and anything that is Red is an object, a class in itself or a real thing if you prefer"

Toxikator wrote:You OBVIOUSLY get my point, Vurt. If waterfalls were more beautiful to listen to than music then people would not listen to music. They'd listen to waterfalls.
and you obviously missed my point.

Toxikator wrote:What was it? near as I could tell, you don't have an iPod.
ok lets do it simply instead...
if youre gonna walk round with an ipod on all day then perhaps you are missing something
aside from which i do infact have many recordings of various outdoor spaces(some i made myself some i bought before i had the technology to make my own) that i do indeed often listen to.
just because you cant hear the beauty of for example a waterfall, doesnt mean others cannot appreciate it.

its not about being more or less compelling or beautiful, its about different peoples perception of any given thing.
not everyone for instance appreciates bach, doesnt mean hes any less skilled than if everyone loved him.

That's totally right vurt.
As I was saying on another topic on this forum music is not limited to what traditionally we call music but it has to do with how we percieve the sounds around us. We can easily attribute noise quality to a composed piece of music as well as music quality to natural noises. Music is strictly linked to our perception like beauty or ugly and good or bad.

if person a listens to piece 1, person a is moved by piece 1.
person a tells person b and person c about piece 1, he tells them its one of the best pieces hes ever heard.
person b and person c get home that night and piece 1 is coincidentally played on the radio, neither of them take much notice until after piece 1 the dj states "that was piece 1 by band x", later on that evening they meet up in a pub, over a pint or two they discuss the track...
person a leaves the pub that night still having heard a piece of music that is amazing to him.
perception isnt up for debate, if something amazes, astounds, shocks, entertains, educates, moves and so on, one person then no other peoples perception can change that.
