Hmmm, upon further reflection the power and ingenious beauty of Omnisphere's pyscho(acous)tic 2 stroke engine thing is slowly revealing itself.
If we admit, and it seems, upon the evidence, we can do no other, that Omnisphere's psychotic.. etc is so advanced that one needs not hear it to be absolutely convinced of it's superiority - then a new paradigm of music (un)production beckons.
For it follows that if an unheard Omnisphere is superior, then a piece of music need not be realised in any concrete form (i.e. performed, produced, recorded) for it to surpass all pre-Omnisphere music. Merely stating the intention to use Omnisphere would lift said proposed musical offering far above all other (non-Omni) music. Kind of like conceptual art, but (because it's Omnisphere) much, much better, nay very perfection.
This being perfectly sound in logic and reasoning, and that, I present the first piece of music of the new age:
'I have it in mind to make a musical piece employing the VST instrument Spectrasonic's Omnisphere.'
There you have it. What do you think? It's almost like hearing angels crying, or the birth of time or something.

yes. coherent. grammar and spelling errors can be forgiven, but it would be nice if you could manage something that wasn't reminiscent of someone who had just been released into Care in the Community.Casar1973 wrote: In coherent english?
you do seem to be the only one here talking as though you're on drugs, though. At least I'm not the only one with a second rate command of english in this particular dialogue.
Really? No more pixies and goblins from you? Did you finally take your meds then? That was hopefully the last line concerning off-topic oddities.

try watching all the videos, and listening to the comp winners.
there are plenty of examples of what we can expect in those.

this is the thread for people who have clearly heard neither to make definitive statements about which one is 'best' and thus is Teh Winnar.

Well, you certainly should call an exorcist anyway, I have no more time for you and I do hope you have none for me, ok? How about getting on with the topic or anything that is even remotely relevant to anybody or anything.whyterabbyt wrote:yes. coherent. grammar and spelling errors can be forgiven, but it would be nice if you could manage something that wasn't reminiscent of someone who had just been released into Care in the Community.Casar1973 wrote: In coherent english?

I'd love to hear more about your in-depth comparison of these two unreleased synths too. details, please...Casar1973 wrote: How about getting on with the topic or anything that is even remotely relevant to anybody or anything.

This is another reason why I started this thread...
I have lost count how many threads were started by someone about products I knew nothing about, but was really glad to discover something new and in most cases better than my current plugs.John-E34 wrote:Thanks for this thread, I was not aware of Alchemy at all....
Back on topic...
That may be the only way. I am hoping a recent comment by Eric hinting at other ways to hear or demo Omni can mitigate the lack of a demo to download.bmanic wrote:Anyhow, it'll be impossible to compare these two as Omnisphere will not have a demo available. Perhaps in a music shop it would be possible to try these against each other and see which one suits you better.
That seems like a good guess but really I think the closer Roland alliance with Cakewalk was the cause of the sudden change of plan for Cakewalk. I can't see any other reason why Cakewalk pulled the plug on it as they have been quite consistent with Product announcements over the years at NAMM.instred wrote:Makes me wonder, if Cakewalks new Synth that was to come out at Winter NAMM 08 was but on hold after Cakewalk so Omnisphere demo. I'm thinking yes, hey we can add those features. Could be an interesting fall for sure. Alchemy looks very interesting to me cause I have Rapture, Dim Pro and being able to load all those SFZ's into it seems unlimited potential.

While I appreaciate why Spectrasonics do not offer demos I think they might lose a fair few customers as a result of not offering a demo of some sort.pdxindy wrote:It is the lack of a demo that means Omnisphere will not even be on my 'interested to purchase list. That and no sample import lost my interest.
Alchemy...
I was amazed to read this...
"all of the CamelSpace and CamelPhat effects included" As an owner of both plugs that is a mouth watering prospect.
CamelPhat
CamelSpace.
I do beleive Eric said Omni will have all 27 of the FX that ship with RMX...
Tube Limiter, Tape Slammer, Modern and Vintage Compressors, Wah-Wah, Power Filter, 6 different Vintage/Parametric/Graphic Equalizers, Flame Distortion, Valve Radio, PRO-Verb, EZ-Verb, Spring Verb, Gate Expander, Stereo Imager, Flanger, 2 different Phasers, 3 BPM Delays, Retroplex Tape Delay and Radio Delay

its name is far cooler than omnisphere, i mean what does that even mean? the all globe? pfft
gimme lead to gold over interplanetary meaninglessness.
plus the fact that camels store water, everyone needs water
no brainer.

The point of Omnisphere as presented by Spectrasonics is to offer totaly new 'waveforms' to design sounds with. It also has some great new features but it is definately not presented as the only synth to make music with or anything close to that. The 7 teaser videos show nicely the new features and some of the sounds that Omnisphere can make plus the ability to take those 'never before sounds (waveforms)' and apply great quality standard synth wave shaping capabilities on them.
I don't know anything about Alchemy and I'm not comparing the two, just making sure people here understand what Omnisphere is all about.
thank.

My guess is that Omnisphere will be the first software instrument that is actually better than any hardware instrument available. There are a number of instruments that are just as good as hardware, e.g. Zebra 2, but Omnisphere might usher in a whole new era of quality. I'm not sure that Alchemy has same potential.

There is no good reason not to offer a demo version. If the synth engine is so good then you do not need 40GB of samples to show what the synth can do.christianmusicmaker wrote: While I appreaciate why Spectrasonics do not offer demos I think they might lose a fair few customers as a result of not offering a demo of some sort.
In the past, before demos became standard I have wasted thousands of dollars on software that did not suit my needs/interests due to marketing hype. These days, a demo version is essential. It is not like I can return it if I am not happy with it. No way I would pay $500 just to find out if I like something. All the risk is on the user. I do not find that a reasonable way to do business.

I just wanted to chime in and say I have a great deal of respect for both Eric, Glenn and the rest of Spectrasonics. I've no doubt that Omnisphere will be a great synthesizer, based on Erics very impressive track record of sound design. I think Alchemy will be great too. The two synths are actually really very different, and each has advantages that will make it appeal to different people, and of course if you have the cash then the best option would be to own both
