Melodyne in C5 ???

Is pitch correction standard on other DAWS? I was not aware of that if it was. But that alone provides some serious added value to the program.

Although I'll STILL have to get the new Melodyne DNA upgrade because THAT'S not going to be in any DAW anytime soon.

Nice, just ugly GUIs and most of that stuff is not needed IMO anyway. BUT... now a sitout of C4 was indeed worth it.

...at least on paper.

Loopmash: Have RMX - this is from the Sequel People, eh?

Beat Designer: Maybe I can finally ditch Rozzer Step Machine? And I did want a beat creation tool like a Roland TR909
Import Pattern Bank: Logic 7/8 copy, eh?
Pitch Shifter: Melodyne Lite or something... Can I use it as VSTi? From the looks of it, guess not that soon.
Pitch Correct: Er... never needed something like that - Butt-Ugly
REVerence: IR Reverb - it looks like it - but BUTT-Ugly again

Can't pin down what's going on on the last screen. But on top, I see little floating windows that SURELY remind me of the beat CD stuff from Logic 7 and Logic 8. So either C5 comes with 8-10 DVDs (which is basically sample content), or I don't know.

I really hope though that I can still use VST2 plugins (WITH VALUES, not percentage) and I also hope, that hardware implementatin is still highly rated. I remember times where SX1 and SX2 totally ditched that.

Oh and I hope HALion One with the Yamaha Samples are still in there. Somebody DEFINITELY hijack the Steinberg Booth and ask them some serious Qs down to the bone. Especially in terms of upgrade prices and release date.

And I'll DEFINITELY CHANGE the color settings for Cubase. Gee is that... ugly and dark toned. Simplified and better GUI? My ass. Hire grymmjack, people!

Yep. Rolands V - vocal has been part of Sonar for years. I would not be surprised to see pitch correction in other hosts like Podium, Reaper e.t.c Gsnap is not bad freebie to bridge the gap.

Funny in a way, (I think someone else mentioned this already) as good as C5 features look, a good deal of it is available already. A great deal for an existing Cubase user by the looks of it, but not much to tempt users of similar hosts IMO.

I just can't understand what the fuss is about. Sure, the vocal correction stuff can be useful, but isn't melodyne basically light years ahead of most built-in stuff? My point being that even though it's an extra purchase, you can expect the company to keep re-developing and improving the product. Steinys not going to do that.

And all the beat box stuff, er, don't we all have a bunch of kick ass drum/beat/whatever stuff?

That's assuming the stuff is what is really going in the first place.

I don't see a fuss either, just thought it's a nice addition. Not something I'd change hosts for, if another has this already available. Milages vary of course ... Seems to be the Yamaha Pitch-fix technology according to the other leak that's travelling around the net.

Interesting points hbidy,...I think you are correct in that usually third party offerings RMX, Melodyne are usually better than Host bundled /native plugs.

But...I think the more of these features that are added to hosts the closer they are to a one stop solution. Cheaper than combining 3rd party options I might add. How effective that is these days is worth another thread

There is plenty of competition now from Protools 8 to Podium.

Some prefer to buy better individual 3rd party offerings to plug into a much cheaper host, others buy 3rd party plugs to plug in a few holes in more expensive hosts, but clearly and not surprisingly the likes of Steinberg, Cakewalk, Digi e.t.c continue to add more of their own FX and instruments (I would say increasingly very good quality for the most part), to get customers cash that would normally go to 3rd party devs.

So it can be a big draw to have everything (or most things one would need) in one place for a cheaper cost or lower host upgrade cost.

Time will tell though if it will take more than that to get people to part with their credit cards for C5 crossgrades. I do think C5 is a nice deal for Cubase users though.

I wish Steinberg would OFFER grace periods. But that is only something that Digidesign does with ProTools Updates.

And yes, the new tools ARE toys in my book. I'm happy to even USE HALion One if I ever switch to C5.

And what's the beef with the percentage sh*t while automating VST2 plugins? Still in there or are we back to values?

i got a grace period upgrade from 3 to 4 so errr...... they do

Hmmm...you really must hate dark tones, which is probably why your own website is all dark, huh?

Though I couldn't care less for most of that mentioned stuff (except batch export and automation), the interesting news will be in the small print like always - stability, performance, bugfixes, small workflow enhancements (keycommands etc).
Pitch correction was overdue, looks very much like Melodyne (which I already own).
My personal wishlist is rather short:
- performance optimizations
- global workspaces
- debugged Mediabay
- debugged timestretch
- ...
