AT3. With Podfarm's 'VintageUK' preamp. TheGlue strapped on the end.
Question to IKMM : AT3 vs AxeFX

Yeah well, I only mentioned the GT-10 because of it's quite great instrument input stage. As said, it's just as good as anything else I've used over the years.Agreed wrote:Sascha, I've liked what I've heard from the GT-10 as well. I don't think, personally, that it matches the quality of high-end software or the AxeFX, but it sounds very good and has an affordable price, is well built, etc.; if I needed a floor-based modeler to gig with, I'd pick that over the competition. The Pod X3 Live seems fragile to me, and the Vox Tonelab series is too confused about where they want the product to fit to put out a good, modern update. I quite like the Korg modelers, but the Korg modelers are just the Vox modelers with A) some extra, cool effects, but B) poorer preamps.
It can't compete with an Axe-FX at all, soundwise. But I usually use the GT-10 along with some nice tube amps anyway.

Sascha, I dont know if we spoke since I bought one (you on the road and all) but I bought a Ted Weber Attenuator, I bought the mini mass to see if I would like it and I will buy another. Instead of a resistor the use of the speaker motor is awesome, this is a tube amp owners dream come true and actually does go down to zero so you can use just the line out (with a cab impulse of course). I don't know if the ship to you, but I'm sure if you were interested you and I could work something outSascha Franck wrote:Yeah well, I only mentioned the GT-10 because of it's quite great instrument input stage. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Hink, do you think Ted Weber does custom modifications? I have already been looking at the Weber Mass and the likes, but something they all don't seem to have is parallel outputs, once with speaker simulation (for monitoring) and once without (for recording), and that's a must for me.
Btw, the Kochs are really good, too.

The outs are one to the speaker cab and the other out for recording, they don't have a speaker sim, just a reactive speaker load. thanx for the heads up on the Kochs, I'll check them out in the morningSascha Franck wrote:Hink, do you think Ted Weber does custom modifications? Hi guys, jumping back into the thread after being away for a week.
Agreed, eventhough your samples are quite honorable, the sound in them wouldn't qualify as metal to me, and the plam muting comes out lifeless to my ears. On the "freya" sample the room ambience sounds tubular, the distortion has a bad velcro-like quality to it and the the plam mutes come out plastic sounding.
Really far from what I've heard on the Bulb (misha mansoor) samples or the Animals as Leaders EP, which are advertised as AxeFx users.
Try to think of it : powerchord/brutal plam mute/powerchord. You should be able to feel the chug and then harmonics bursting and going larsen. I can't achieve this with AT3, even though I'm using a good axe and audio interface. I've tried hard, but couldn't achieve this.
Room ambience is a great factor in sensing the chug, I reckon that, but the quality and dynamic behavior of harmonics coming after a mute seems weird in amp sims. Also I'd love to see stomp noise gate in at 3. Also, I find it sad that the Jimi Hendrix stereo room reverb is not available in AT3. I have boths AT3 and Hendrix and need to chain two instances to get that stereo room reverb.
Just to say, I'd really like to know about what's going on under the hood, what phenomena have been dropped from the models to make them computationally viable as VSTs. As I can't get convinced by the sound, maybe the technical details would reassure me. I need to know how these amp sims differ technically. What's the distance between real world and models.
For the room ambience thing, it seems that some people have used the nebula VST to capture cab sim responses, but I can't find the impulses on the net.
