Interesting that gate has oversampling, thumbs up!
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Wish they would bring out some more creative effects or another instrument
What does a gate/expander do anyway?

So the opposite of a compressor? Why not have a compressor that goes both ways?IIRs wrote:Increase dynamic range.aMUSEd wrote:What does a gate/expander do anyway?

Pro-G has the potential for some pretty creative uses.aMUSEd wrote:Wish they would bring out some more creative effects or another instrument

A gate turns off a signal once it falls to a specified threshold value. An expander (downward) works similarly, but it reduces the level of the signal by a specified amount (rather than shutting it off) once it falls below the specified threshold. They're good for reducing background noise, but can also be used to get the stuttering "trancegate" effect. Pro-G also has upward expansion, m/s expansion, etc.

A bi-sexual compressor?!?!?aMUSEd wrote:So the opposite of a compressor? Why not have a compressor that goes both ways?IIRs wrote:Increase dynamic range.aMUSEd wrote:What does a gate/expander do anyway?
I'm very excited about a Gate plugin from Fabfilter. I do a lot of "shedding" by making drum loops that I use in songs later. A gate is crucial for me to get rid of all the little extra tails and parts that I don't want in the sound in order to free up space in a mix. So with that in mind...YES!!!!!! A GATE PLUGIN FROM FABFILTER!!!! WOOO HOOOO!

Waves C1 can do that, or you can use Melda's MDynamics or Flux's Solera/Alchemist to do all manner of crazy things. But the thing about a gate is that it has several extra controls that have no realistic use on a compressor.aMUSEd wrote:So the opposite of a compressor? I use SPL De-Verb to remove tales in all my samples (I would say my favorite plugin and most used). The gate is for a nice compact mix with the kicks.psylevation wrote:A bi-sexual compressor?!?!?aMUSEd wrote:So the opposite of a compressor? SPL De-Verb looks interesting and fairly inexspensive, I think I'll try out the demo.

Unfortunately not! But it is a great idea and you should definitely mention it on their forum. It should be quite easy to implement.shamann wrote:Does this have an inverted mode (mutes input above threshold, lets pass everything below)?
You can do it yourself as well but it'll take two tracks. Simply phase reverse the gated track and send it to the original. Boom.. instant mutes of the stuff that the gate lets through and pass through of everything else.
Cheers!
