All,

I have updated the Futurehaus project page to reflect those who sent me private messages. Please check the spelling and link status for your homepages, and let me know if I've made any mistakes. Thanks!

Also, I was playing around today with that free microTera synth that came with the latest Music Tech magazine. I really like that little synth, and I came up with this dreamy loop which I might use as a starting point for my personal composition for the Dream Sequencers project. Please feel free to post your ideas and progress here, too. :)

The link above is a continuation of the loop I posted earlier - it's just a long loop and starts abruptly. I'm slowly getting ideas, but ironically, it's harder than I thought to keep things minimal. I have a tendency to want to develop things in a very "pop song" sort of way. I need to shed that tendency for this piece.

As I was working on it I kept thinking of that beautiful scene in the Lord of the Rings when the hobbits first encountered the elves leaving middle earth. My music sort of reflects that ethereal scene, hence the title. I may actually try to sing some plain chant over parts of this. That would be cool if I can stay in tune - I'm not much of a singer. :help:

Well, I've made significant additions and improvements to this composition. Let me know what you think. Is it still _dreamy_ and cinematic? What does this piece lack that would make it better?

I've just given this a proper listen and got the urge to play with it a bit in orion if you don't mind.
just recently finished up the silmarillion and working on the tolkien miscellany now so naturally I love the theme :D

what a beautiful piece
Thank you Vurt! I keep working on it and it improves each draft. I think I will be adding either a bass or cello part toward the end right after the timpani roll. I think the piece has the opportunity to get slightly more intense there, but I'll need to be careful not to make it lose its current character which I like as well.

Let me know what you think of it now Vurt. Instead of getting _more intense_ I just extended the melodic ideas a little, creating something of an outro chorus in the solo violin. About the only thing I can think to do now is put a small grace note before each chord change in the cellos to give it a little more momentum...

[Edit: Now that I've mulled it over, it needs a drone intro for about a minute or so to create anticipation for the initial chords, the perhaps a revisit to the chords in a different orchestration after the melody is spent at the end... man, I just don't know. I need to let this incubate...

If anyone is curious, the strings are from the Garritan Personal Orchestra with cellos on the chord progression at the beginning and the Gigliano solo violin for the melody. I highly recommend this sample set.

Ack! I should have kept up with this thread after the first day or two. I would be happy to join in the Dream Sequencer's thing, if there is still time.

I've been doing several meditation/sleep pieces recently, all at 90 bpm, so I can probably add some stuff quickly now that I know about the project.

What was that about Tolkien misc? I happen to be working on a Tolkien computer game (as an artist), so I've written a couple middle earth ambient beds, and listened to a fair amount of Chance Thomas's (Tolkien music guru) work recently.

I'll try and research more about this project as soon as I get a little time (need to run off to work in a minute).

Post

I would figure there'd still be time to jump aboard.

Read the complete thread and you'll get the idea, or maybe think of an idea.

The above thread takes you to my new track for this project.

For some reason a posting I thought I did here is not here.... Either I wasn't paying attention and replied to a completely different topic... duhhh

or it just never posted and I never checked it...

Anyhow... I had made a start on this track last weekend after the Stars End show. It uses a small part (two samples) from the harmonibass, offered earlier by opiadream. I want to work on it a bit more, but I am sharing it here, as maybe someone might be interested in the patches I made here. After all it is a collaboration project....

btw. its all freeware synths (except the rolling drums: SY85) so that shouldn't be a problem sharing....
