Sounds like a good idea but software wont be compatible .
HP will buy in big as usual at a markup.
The power difference between the 2 tablets might be an issue for developers.
Dont expect cheap software like ipad dual development will cost more money.
What if you have an arm tablet and the software is made for intel your screwed.
32 bit or 64 bit.
Microsoft always has more viruses so you will need virus software.
Most people will eventually opt for intel , leave the arm err legless.

I have had a psion,palm,android,ipad and laptop.

We all have used windows at some point . You know CTRL ALT DEL , regedit , virus.
But the ipad offers the best range of Portable apps for music.

Anyway it might not matter soon html 5 web audio api could be the future.

Such a quaint view of Windows, 10 years ago maybe. These days - OSX has built in Malware protection too :

Its about time they caught up with the real world rather than giving users the impression that OSX is bulletproof. Nothing is. Of course Apple is saying its Gatekeeper malware protection is "revolutionary" which is farcical, its just necessary and long overdue. Whether it reports anything is another matter, wouldnt want to scare users by telling them all is not well eh? :-)

That will never happen... It is like saying that nobody is/will be using Macs in professional studio environment.
Are you kidding?
iOS rules the world of music apps at the moment and I don't see anything matching it for the next few years at least...
You can dream of course... ;)
Just put all the PC versions of the software listed in your sig on a Windows 8 tablet (when available) and you already have an iPad killer. Why? Just try to do the same on your iPad. Oh wait...you can't!

And neither can your Win8 Tablet running on ARM processors.

M$ is offering a choice of hardware, unlike crApple, so consumers get what they want, not what the supplier wants them to have.

So yes, Windows users can use their existing software so long as they choose the a model with the right CPU ie Intel / AMD

I don't see why there is a big hoohaw about these things, really. If you like your tablet, great. I've got 2 tablets, one is an iPad and the other is a Window8 one. Both work fine for me.

People who like the Windows tablets should use the Windows tablets. People who like Android tablets, should use Android tablets. People (like me) who like iOS, should use iOS tablets. Whats the big deal?

I hope all do well, and fill the needs of their customers.

As far as "iPad Killer".... every product after the iPod came out was marketed as an iPod killer. Every new smartphone that came out after the iPhone was a potential iPhone killer (remember the Palm Pre?), and now every tablet and mobile OS is touted as the iPad killer. Seems so silly. Use whats best for you and don't worry about what everyone else uses. And, don't bash people who choose a different electronic appliance than you.....

I still don't get that "killer" obsession, but... iPhone killer? Why do we need an iPhone killer? What is the market share of iPhones globally? Anyone knows? I bet it will not be bigger than 10% (and if it is it will already be an excelent figure). Anyway, I agree it's a great product, which is competing well against other great products.

Cellular phones is a very competitive mareket, and noone can claim to dominate that market - no way.

(Reuters) - Apple, which became the world's largest smartphone vendor in the fourth quarter, will see its iPhone market share slipping for a couple of quarters as the novelty of its latest 4S model runs out, research firm Gartner said on Wednesday.

Apple saw its iPhone sales more than double in the last quarter when it took a 24 percent share of the smartphone market, helped by a 15-month period before the 4S model was launched, which created a lot of pent-up demand.

Facts:
1. These figures are about "smartphones"
2. They don't seem to take into account the competition, since they even didn«t mention it
3. The latest iPhone is widely regarded as a disappointment, not worthing the massive marketing barrage, and the prices asked.

Now, IMO these "studies" made by companies nobody knows about, seem to me as accurate and credible as the financial ratings - they are at service of those who pay more for them.

So, the question remains. IMO, of course. Again, I think the iPhone is a very good product, but not worthing the price asked, and not my cup of tea - but I am just one, and there are millions of customers, all with their own opinion.

The same applies to the tablet market, so, there will hardly be a kliller for anything, but real competition is always welcome. Again, IMO, of course.

No, well, the article was about Apple's share of the smart phone market. 15 months of PR/hype will do that though-that is what those marketing men do. And, with the Apple mystique, well, one can't really fault them for what came out.

Although, to be fair, the iPhone is not all that big of a failed product either. It seems to have struck the right balance for some people.

As for the 'killer' moniker-any time I read phrases like that it is just marketing lingo in reverse. A lot of people fall for it.

If history is evidence (and i mean to include experience with all of MS' products to date, as well as comparing to Apple's current success), the only way MS will succeed is by throwing money and business deals at it until it sticks. i've been on Windows since before Win95 and my hate of it grows daily. i spent about 2 years away from my PC, using a MacBook Pro and then also an iPhone (original and now 4), and i think the experience has converted me. i started using Win Vista again when i got my studio machine set up again and, while all my projects are there, i DESPISE the OS and most of the software suffering on it (i say it that way because i know a lot of the software problems are architectural issues in the OS).

Furthermore, i don't see an iPad as even being the same product category as a laptop, netbook or any device running a "full OS," so i don't see comparing them as a very sensible activity. Eventually, Apple will "dumb down" (you have no idea how dumb it is when you call it that, folks) their desktop/laptop stuff so that there's unity between their "full" system and the phones/pads, and i for one welcome that evolution. i'm not one of those geeks that cares to maintain a grip on the status quo of technical geekery and nerdism, as much as i grew up with that being my career.
