Think i found the problem now. On my Laptop, there is a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/VST/VSTPluginsPath which points to the Cakewalk directory. No idea why it points there, but i guess that must be why Retrologue installs its VST2 there. Guess i just can change it to point the installer to install the VST2 somewhere else. That's why i hate those automatic installation paths...

Be careful when you mess with the registry
Programs store data in various folders, like appdata - ... - virtual store etc.
Windows is a mess.

I remember that review, I read it as well before I bought R.chk071 wrote:Small but very positive review on Music Radar: http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/ ... gue-564424
So, do you like it now that it works?

Yeah, i like it. Been testing it thoroughly before i bought though, so i don't buy a pig in a poke.
Actually, i find the name a bit misleading, as i find the sound to be pretty modern. Ok, the filter resonance behaves more or less as on an analog modelled filter, but the overall sound, oscillator and envelopes, is more like on a modern VA. I get some nice arps and pads out of this thing. I think for 50€ this is a really cool plugin.

Alongside Cubase 8.5, Steinberg released version 2 of Retrologue: http://www.steinberg.net/de/products/vs ... tails.html

Happy to see they added phase control for the oscillators. I don't see a stereo spread function though, which was already a bummer that it doesn't exist in version 1...
Update Price is pretty steep for me. I got Retrologue new for 49 €, the upgrade is another 49 €... new price for version 2 is 99 €.

Steinberg's upgrade / update prices generally tend to be a bit on the steep side. That also goes for Cubase updates from previous versions to the latest one.chk071 wrote:Alongside Cubase 8.5, Steinberg released version 2 of Retrologue: http://www.steinberg.net/de/products/vs ... tails.html

Gotta revise my post a bit though. There's really a LOT of improvements everywhere. 4 LFO's instead of 2, a mod envelope, one more oscillator, fixed and random osc phase, new filters, higher voice count, more mod matrix slots, more modulation sources and targets, arpeggiator, more FX, and FX chain option... i think 49 € is just fair considering so much stuff they added. But again, why on earth didn't they add stereo spread control for the multi oscillator...
Can only explain that to myself that it's an architectural issue. Some more waveforms would have been nice too.

Wow, now this is turning into a serious competitor in the subtractive market, no longer the basic synth, but fully-featured and complete. This will give some others an even harder time, for instance Sylenth, UA, Dune (for those who only cared about the VA part of it, anyway), Element, DiscoDSP, even U-he etc.
They should also build that thing in hardware
Given all the improvements, the price is more than justified.
But it seems they require a USB-eLicenser now
