I've hopped, but can't find it. Could you please provide a link?

Or, failing that, could you please detail how Cubase/Nuendo users can configure this so I don't keep accidentally rendering tracks with ARC?

Thanks

Ok. I think I found it: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/8107140-post39.html

Not quite sure I understand it though. I know it's getting off topic, but if anyone can give me a brief step-by-step tut on this for Cubase 6.5, I'd appreciate it.

Ah I get it... somewhat.

The user here states that you should create a "send connection" to a bus (group) where you put ARC on as dedicated plugin. Though I have a problem with that: routing "back" rather than forward doesn't work in Cubase.

Anyway - this channel is then routed to the "monitor" (e.g. through the internal "control room") or a dedicated output for "monitoring" only. The mix bus is then unaffected, if not sent to a dead end alltogether.

I remember from back in the day, that Cubase has a "listening channel", where you can use inserts as well. Since Cubase basically renders "what you want" only, or just the summing bus, ARC would run independent and won't be part of the mixdown.

Now, this is a workaround indeed - whether or not this is practical lies within another ballpark.

Since the scenario was a little odd where you'd have to wait to use your JamPoints to get a better deal, we've added the ability to use JamPoints on the upgrade to defer 25% of the total. So you can now put up to 25% equivalent JamPoints into the cart and reduce the upgrade price.

Thank you for reporting this and I apologize for any inconvenience. In the case where you've already purchased, if you could please contact us and we'll have support and order processing work with you to get it resolved.

Thanks again.

Wow, the whining/complaining on this thread is unbelievable. I don't what it is about people complaining about IK. maybe it's because they actually take time to to post on this board and answer questions; and people just like to have someone to complain to given the opportunity.

Yes, IK announces new products and upgrades on here LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER DEVELOPER DOES. But here's the kicker - they actually stay around afterwards to offer good support and listen to people's complaints.

The funniest thing is the most common complaint seems to be when something goes on sale. "But I just bought it a few months ago!!!   "

If you were willing to pay the price when you bought it, then don't complain. Anyway . . . thanks IK for making cool products and offering great support. I apologize on behalf of the anger management group on here and the paranoid schizophrenics.

Back to ARC2. It looks like this uses the Audyssey XT32 engine which is supposed to really help with smaller mixing rooms. According to IK's website, anyway. That was one of my problems with ARC in that I would intentionally turn my subwoofer volume DOWN when running the reference tests. Because ARC would detect a 20dB (or was it 12dB?) peak and suck the bass out of the woofer if I didn't. I wonder if this would fix that problem?

I'm not saying there isn't a 20 dB peak in that bass range but without it I can't hear the bass at all. Which defeats the purpose of my expensive subwoofer, LOL!
+1! When you get ARC2, PLEASE report on if issues like these are indeed fixed! Hopefully we get a demo versions so we can see ourselves.

Seems fine, but if there's a more specific issue than general access please let me know.

Could be, since the XT32 engine is made to offer a better resolution overall.

Though I do have the impression from your post, that you setup your subwoofer a tad wrong in the first place. Did you actually measure it in compared to your speakers? Or is the placement non-ideal?

(example: speakers, individually 83dB SPL c-weighted, so subwoofer with LP at 150Hz should be at least 10dB to 15dB lower, meaning 73dB to 68dB SPL c-weighted - at least to my knowledge - please read up on calibrating, just to be sure)

My subwoofer position is *definitely* wrong. Unfortunately my mix space is quite cramped, not by choice. I share a space and if I could go back in time the floor plans for the studio would have been changed. Not a single hammer would have been picked up prior to thoroughly reading a book on acoustic design! But I live with it...ARC made things better. Here's a sloppy drawing of my setup:

Image

Where that big white space is at the bottom is filled up with a client chair, table for mic/random stuff storage, lamp and other various junk. On the walls we have 3x3 panels of Auralex foam and 8 LENRD foam bass traps in the corners. Ceiling is about 8 feet or 9 feet tall with a portion of it only 7 feet. It has a 4x3 panel of acoustic foam tiles. The room is not an exact cube but damn near close which sucks.

My biggest problem with the room was the sharp reflections that were coming off the walls. My mixes would always sound dull on other systems. ARC knocked those peaks down but then when I added the subwoofer and acoustic panels the the bass was up over 12 dB. Problem is I am used to bass sounding louder than other frequencies so I had to turn the woofer's volume down while testing ARC to compensate. Not ideal but it works for me.

The subwoofer is up on a Auralex GRAMMA and the monitors are both on Auralex MoPADS. Those seemed to help a bit, especially the GRAMMA because the walls rattle a lot more without it. The sub's porthole is facing towards the mix position.

I do have an SPL meter so maybe I'll try a few different positions with the sub. I can't see positioning it anywhere else for practical reasons.

I don't think I'll be buying ARC2 any time soon. Not unless I have a last minute client coming in to record a demo or full album. My calendar is clear until September :-(

Hey Peter,
I've been a satisfied user of the ARC system since 2008. Even though there are some nice enhancements to ARC 2, I felt ARC 1.31 was still working fine for me and was going to wait on getting the update. Even though I felt I would eventually get it down the line it did not seem a must have for me right now. But after I read your post about being able to apply some JamPoints to the upgrade price, I went and checked my account and sure enough I had 20 points sitting in my account. Needless to say, my new $79 upgrade price made me pull out the plastic!
:)

25%... *pff* Better than nothing. So thanks for the efforts, Peter.

Actually not at all. If you followed recent history with IKM, you should know why there are complaints.

cactuseskimo wrote:they actually stay around afterwards to offer good support and listen to people's complaints.
Sorry, but I don't agree. It's true that IKM "stayed", but with the last releases, it was basically only pimping their tools and evading answers. This thread sure is a change for the time being.

cactuseskimo wrote: The funniest thing is the most common complaint seems to be when something goes on sale. "But I just bought it a few months ago!!!   "
Er... no, not in this case.

cactuseskimo wrote: If you were willing to pay the price when you bought it, then don't complain.
No argument against that. But if you're promised that no pricedrop or deal will happen soon, and you're treated as "valuable customer" and then only 2-3 months later, there is a sale (group buy, bundle deal, etc) with 1/3rd of the price you initially paid...

Do you think that is okay?

cactuseskimo wrote:Anyway . . . thanks IK for making cool products and offering great support. I apologize on behalf of the anger management group on here and the paranoid schizophrenics.
You should get out of the house more, maybe the paranoia is rubbing off. ;)

I'd position the sub more towards the upper 2/4th of the room (horizontal wise), since you have a fairly cubic room, this could help.

Another thing you could do, is measure with Room EQ Wizard to really see what's up. I think you have standing waves somewhere, and this cased the either intense sound, or not at all.

A SPL meter alone won't help you, sorry. You need to analyse your room and then start fixing. GearSlutz is a good starting point for acustics, even with small budget or space.

If I read it right, you've got treatment in the corners, the walls and the ceiling. Good start. I think now your only problem might be the sub: compensate the volume, find a different crossover point so that it's "supportive" to your speakers rather than covering the bass as well, etc.

You won't believe how much can change soundwise if you only move around speakers. ;)

ARC is the the final touch on this.

@CompyFox - if you are referring to Black/White T-RackS Singles, then we stated they wouldn't go on sale for a good period of time (I believe Brian and/or Obi stated a time period) and neither the stated time period nor the actual elapsed time were 2-3 months, it was MUCH longer (9 months) and well within the parameters that were stated. AmpliTube 3 went on a time-limited special for ~$99 ...YEARS... after its release.

Edit - In the spirit of the improved communication I've been attempting to accomplish in this thread, I will agree to disagree on this. However, I verified that we had stated what was our official statement on the Black and White Singles and whether they'd go on sale for what period of time. It was stated that they would not go on sale for the remainder of 2011 and we did exactly what we stated and they did NOT go on sale during said period. I hope we can get back to ARC 2 now.
