havent FM e-pianos been so over-used in the 80ies to make them uncomfortably Cheezy like Elevator music ?
same for Saxophone Soloes too ?

An instrument or sound cannot be cliche in and of it's-self, only the way it's used can, IMO.realmarco wrote:havent FM e-pianos been so over-used in the 80ies to make them uncomfortably Cheezy like Elevator music ?

I play on a Santana cover band.. When I use some DX Pianos patches, the drummer talks about that 'steak house sound'

weren't drums and guitars and stuff overused in the 60's and 70's ? derp why are people still using guitars and drums and stuff... hell weren't pianos overused in the 1800's...realmarco wrote:havent FM e-pianos been so over-used in the 80ies to make them uncomfortably Cheezy like Elevator music ?

its a very specific DX7 preset, everyone freaked out with that synth during the 80ies in a way or another it was used pretty much in everysong and movies so its associated to that era. and the 80ies were bad@midnight wrote:weren't drums and guitars and stuff overused in the 60's and 70's ? derp why are people still using guitars and drums and stuff... hell weren't pianos overused in the 1800's...realmarco wrote:havent FM e-pianos been so over-used in the 80ies to make them uncomfortably Cheezy like Elevator music ?

Its like in Dubstep, using Massive"s Preset "brutal electro".
Or the Korg M1's piano
piano , drums "and stuff" are acoustic/electro-acoustic and generally don't sound the exact same.
the DX7's preset DOES !!!
btw i'm not taking the bait concerning insults

No!! But that's the whole point of having a DX7 today and exactly why I bought mine!has anyone got examples of that DX7 Preset that isnt cheezy Brittney-spear like ballads and 90ies R&B ?
Basically it's a preset machine making me able to recreate the music of my youth. You shouldn't buy one if you don't feel the exact same way. No one can figure out programming it anyway so people should get something else if that's their goal.
I could have gone for FM8 instead of course. It would have been cheaper and more flexible than the DX7 but it doesn't sound the same. I did a blind test once (same amps / monitors) and you just can't emulate those 1983 crappy digital converters in modern software. (plus it has great keys and it's made for actual playing, unlike 9/10 midi controllers currently available on the market)

Lol I love Sax and guitar solos. I even regret drum solos in concerts....
Another FM8 demo from our libraries?
FM Legends
Hopefully perfectly demonstrates imho what I think of the FM8 : Organic, expressive instruments and life brought back to the digital age

11+ years on KVR and you still haven't learned your lesson. Sounds like it's time for you to take a time out and go sit in the sad chair.
