funny enough that is exactly what I use it for lolMister Natural wrote:BINGOKevWestBeats wrote:. . . I own Operator and I am demoing PX7. For me Operator wins here if you don't mind the gui . . . If this is your only synth I would get Operator.
this is a very powerful synth with unmatched write-your-own program-ability
it's built for those of you who don't want to emulate FM sounds from the 1990s

My previous experience with FM is mostly Rhino and Sytrus (FM8 always seemed way too expensive to me) and they're both sort of hybrids with fx and filters and all sorts of other stuff going on. With Sytrus in particular there seemed to be so many dance/trance/acid presets that could be achieved easier with subtractive synthesis that I couldn't see the point.
I tried PX7 without having very high hopes for it and surprised myself when I had a eureka moment. The GUI makes more sense to me than other FM synths that I've used and, most importantly, I was hearing FM without the filters, fx and hybrid bells and whistles. I've suddenly developed a real interest in a form of synthesis that had previously left me cold and it's largely due to the fact that PX7 doesn't do what so many other FM synths do.
Sure, for a lot of people PX7 will be too basic and not full-featured enough but, for me, it's just about perfect.

After hearing that Zebra preset again, It sounds like 2 separate sounds at once.Examigan wrote:I made one with Saurus that sounds nice, I will post it tomorrow.PatchAdamz wrote:There are many good ones, Fm8, Octopus, but one of my favorite DX type electric piano is from ZEBRA.

It is easy enough to layer 2 sounds in Zebra...Examigan wrote:After hearing that Zebra preset again, It sounds like 2 separate sounds at once.Examigan wrote:I made one with Saurus that sounds nice, I will post it tomorrow.PatchAdamz wrote:There are many good ones, Fm8, Octopus, but one of my favorite DX type electric piano is from ZEBRA.

Just created some waveforms based on FM8 for use in Rayblaster (currentlly working on an update):

@Lotuzia:
At that thread i posted about a strange problem in FM8 with getting different waveforms (flipping between two mostly) when hitting a key on a keyboard controller several times.

I love Toxic Biohazard but it has a different sound from FM8...soundnaut wrote:Toxic Biohazard sounds better than fm8 imo.
I have Komplete and FM8 is the only synth I really use from that pack...
It's ability to load Yamaha sysex files is priceless...
FM8 layers really well and it doesn't take up a lot of "space" in the mix...
The best solution is to get both Toxic Biohazard and FM8
