I think himalayas examples sound great
I like Tremor but it's too flexible to be a simple drum machine and too unflexible to compete with something like Bazille/Reaktor/Zebra etc.
If I want a simple drum machine I still use the uber-awesome Microtonic and if I want something more complex I usually use Bazille.
Tremor lies somewhere in between them, so I don't really have a use for it.
Cheers

I dunno, I just like it.TheoM wrote:
How can you like that? I can't understand in what world these sounds could go into a mix.
Straight Tremor output.PS are yo using any processing in those clips? or just straight tremor?
So would I if I wanted to use samples.I'd take punch over this any day, or RMV,
I thought the 'Progressive Tribe' example had 'oomph' ? A solid kick + clear and punchy snare/claps. Tight percussive elements, and shiny hats...try to do anything with a bit of oomph and it falls flat on it's face.

*scratches head*... *wiggles finger in ear*... nope, don't get it.
Great examples as always, himalaya! The vintage drum machines sound suitably crusty and CR-78.

Been a while since i demoed it last but i've been listening to patch demoes and goin through the 101 tutorials, i think it sounds great! I thought it sounded a bit thin in some sounds but with a bit of tweaking it can sound fat and punchy. There seems to be a phase issue though, sometimes the hit sounds different on every third or fourth pass unless it's modulation but i remember it from before.
But it does do synthetic percussion really well.

It's probably modulation. There are a lot of mod sources, including a random source, variable length graphs, plus lots of things respond to varying velocity. Also steps can have probability to trigger. It's mad easy to set up beats that live and breathe on each pass.

Does this have more 'oomph'?
www.electric-himalaya.com/stuff/tremor/Tremor_Oomph.mp3
stock Tremor presets there.
It has to be said, that there are a lot of 'tinny' drum hits in the stock library, but meaty sounds are also there.
The natural question is, does Tremor need a more solid and 'oomph'-infused set of basic drum hits? Tremor users? What say you?

I'll check tomorrow, it was on a kick that i programmed from the 101 tuts so i reset the channel, don't know if it was a global lfo mod but it seemed quite random. Yeah it's organic, i was listening to some of Sampleconstructs soundcloud demos and some of the stuff doesn't sound like it comes from a drum synth.~Pd~ wrote:It's probably modulation. Tremor for me is pretty immense. I have roland drum machine emulations to cover the breadNbutter sounds but everything else i will supplement with tremor. It does have a bit of a sharp sound to it and can definitely cut through a mix. Tremors sharp sound can be a good or bad thing depending on how much work you want to do, but overall i think it is a very powerful tool.
Fxpansion, Native Instruments and D16 really cover my entire drum Sound needs. The only other thing I have considered possibly buying in the future is maybe Utonic but I know I don't need it..

to OP: NI Maschine happened, Akai Mpc Ren happened. Plus the fact that a ton of user requests never got filled.
To their defense, they are a smaller company, but imo, folks should pick one or two things n do them great instead of good.
Geist could benefit from a dedicated controller too..

Does anyone have any full mixes with Tremor that sound great? Posting examples of just the drum synth itself is useful, yes, but what really counts is how it sits in the mix. I do sometimes like the aggressive sound of Tremor, but I myself am unable to find a satisfactory tone that plays well with everything else.
It's probably just my hearing, but I've tried my hardest to find a clean kick sound like the ones that are quite easy to get out of Drumspillage or Spark (Analog section). All the Tremor patches I hear the kick drum sounds like it went through a blender. It sounds super harsh, regardless of how much I tweak it. I don't think that's the "analogue" I'm hearing either. I had a Jomox Airbase for a few years and the kick was incredibly clean an undeniably analogue. Could it be that I'm f**king up the gain structures of Tremor?

The gain structure is essential in Tremor. The Pre and Post filter drive and the Gain in the filter itself can add a lot of saturation.
Can you post an example of some 'clean' kicks that you like?
Here are four kicks that I'd say are punchy, solid and clean - no drive or compression used. Are these harsh to your ears?

That's it, it might have the skin of drum machine but there's a pretty deep instrument underneath.V0RT3X wrote:Tremor for me is pretty immense.
