U-he Zebra
Although I started with many freeware synths for some time before getting it.

Btw I think most people might have mis-read the OP.. They asked what was THE first must-have VST instrument.. not what was YOUR first must-have VST instrument.

Because some pathetic shit company decided to gain fame by manipulating the KVR ratings and making a "game" out of it. Won't name it, nor their products, you can take a look for yourself.Ayavaron wrote:I know this is offtopic but how/why did that happen?audiojunkie wrote:It stood in the number one slot and highest in the ratings for years here at KVR, before the ratings lost all value and meaning.

I agree. In my own experience, Zebra is the first "must-have" vst! So, why don't I have it yet?mcnoone wrote:U-he Zebra

H.G.Fortune STS21...
To this day still one of my favs. I'll never forget the time
I was fairly new to the virtual synth world and I had downloaded
the free version of H.G. Fortune STS21 and did an entire bank.
I posted the bank and H.G. Fortune was impressed enough with it
to send me the commercial version.
I'll never forget that and to this day still use STS21

Thats what I thought, but then I got caught reading this thread down memory lane...
AstralEx pretty much said exactly what I was thinking in every single one of his posts here.
Gosh, the mammaries.
The first thing I noticed being looked at as "the shit" from all angles was Albino.
Before that for me personally it was a lot of freeware, so I probably also wasnt totally paying attention until Albino either.
Albino was the first 'does everything' that 'everyone' should own.
