This whole video is worth watching (a preview of a longer documentary) but the comments relevant to this thread, and genuinely interesting in their own right, start at 6m 35s:

Cool doc! :)

That reminds me of some of the older mods I seen...I wish I had the $$$$ for it!!!

Of course we ware spoiled :)
I live in a country where there are only 4 free TV channels, coming from a country with zillions of channels, that took some time getting used to :D But one learns to live with limitations...

At least in the case of plugins there is no material aspect, unlike with collecting cars or whatever, which you have to store, maintain, etc. It's just immaterial software that can be copied infinite times.

So basically it boils down to wasting money and time instead of being creative...

Haven't artists always been a bit extreme? People like Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock have always had mountains of equipment, always the latest stuff...

Coming from the same country as you, I can assure you that it's even possible to live completely without TV in a country with hundreds of DVB-T TV channels. Since I don't have a TV anymore (and this means since 5 years), I finally have more time for music (and for KVR, too)...

Hundreds by now?!? Gee :P
But there definitely is a similarity. Like with zapping thru TV channels, you waste a lot of time trying the zillions of VSTi's in your plugin folder, instead of settling on just a handful...

If I would delete all free plugins (and magware) I would only have less than 100 plugins, so I don't buy too much of them... But there's so much good free stuff out there that I try to keep most of them because it's so hard to part with all these great plugins... Sometimes I think now let's delete Oatmeal, for example, it's old, and I don't use it at all...but I cannot...

Wow, you are definitely an addict as well :D
I have about two dozen plugins, most of which I never use, some came with my DAW.
I only use 5 or 6. I recognize a good plugin by my willingness to make patches. If I have to force myself to program a plugin, I might as well delete it. With my half dozen or so, however, I program tens of patches within a few days :)

I have 2000+ vsts in my folder. Maybe 3 times more not installed yet, not sure coz I lost the count...

I'm not only addicted to VSTs, I'm addicted to reading posts about VSTs. Can't waste time more effectively than that . . . .
