I should say I am not into dance music at all. Prog rock is my thing but I couldn't help but notice the amazing collection of presets inside synthmaster designed for dance music.

I'd snag synthmaster and

One should always grab Native Instruments Komplete and you can pay it off with financing from lots of retailers. How many awesome synths are in this package now? Then they throw in tons of fx and its only $500 total no brainer.

The sale cakewalk had on Ratpture etc that still going on? $20 dollar will make you hollar.

Free synths are an option as well.

In all honestly there are numerous options and I can't understand why you would zero in on just these 2 to start with.

Synthmaster has so many cool preset packs as options that dance and dj types go for that I would think you'd have to snag it at some point in time.

Korg legacy is also another worth snagging.

Alchemy and Omnispphere also.

You may be amazing at sound design and come up with the most badass sound, but your song may still suck. Or you may be terrible at sound design and not understand synthesis, but come up with a great song using presets / Nexus.

Is it a good idea to consider Nexus vs Kontakt ? After all if Nexus is just a rompler, then it is nothing more than a sampler with pre-loaded samples.

actually, unlike some people may think, Nexus does A LOT more under the hood, than just playing samples

There are oscillators with saw, noise, sq etc...
lfos, envelopes, unisono, filters, amps, distortions, different fx, arps, tg's and hundreds of more parameters, like a "real" synth offers. However, like Urs said already, Nexus has a different concept, the concept of being a huge preset library player. So most of these parameters are not accessible in the user version. But they are there and are heavily used for creating the sound you hear

So yes, Nexus may be a rompler, but it is a synthesizer, too. Every preset has a lot of sound design going on, and its not just a sample playing. You would be suprised how "rough" and simple most of the samples sound in the source condition.

I also want to add, there are some sounds in the world, only a sample player / rompler is able to reproduce

... like in the Nexus Piano XP or in the Hollywood 2 XP I am currently working on. Those who are interested can have a look at the photo album on FB, how it works to create such sounds: https://www.facebook.com/ManuelSchleis/ ... 172&type=3

I think you actually CAN be very creative using such sounds, without the need of changing them like you do in a synth

That's interesting. And I'll definitely buy the Hollywood 2 XP.

Not what you will want to hear, but trust me, you should get both.

Nexus2 is VERY inspirational.

All of Urs products are also phenomenal and you can achieve very awesome things with them as well.

Both of these are excellent to add to your collection of plugins.

reFX Nexus 2 worth buying or should I wait for Zebra 3?
