Yeah it's exactly this kind of nonsense attitude from developers that really irks me - it's exactly why I'm not willing to support a company that goes out of its way to stop me from using what I have bought. I say "bought" on purpose here; you might be happy with this kind of 5h1tty model, but I'm definitely not.
exactly, I agree that if i pay a chunk of change or anything at all expecting product. Is hould be able to get it.

If indeed it is true that the license stays on the e licenser always that would be nice I can always always always have it ready. Downside, take sup a USB port. Upside I dont have to wait for activation.

It would be nice If they supplied an e-licnenser dongle thing with the product because going into it I didn't know they would stop giving me authroizations.

Many people have computer crashes for various software and driver failure. Quite common or atleast it used to be.

They do supply one with the boxed versions. Otherwise, you order one online. Wait until some super sale at GarbageCenter or something and get %20 off.

+1

It's not asking too much to have users to be responsible for their licenses. People shouldn't be bitching at Arturia because their p*rn addiction f***ed their computer. As computers are inherently imperfect, technical problems are always a possibility. That's why I have a RAID 1 for my Time Machine. There's a good chance at least one of those drives are going to die in the near future. $25 for a USB eLicenser isn't a huge expense (imho).

Again, I'm not Arturia bashing, I've had no problem with them, and, I don't completely disagree with what you're saying, but, your suggestion isn't completely fair. If one's computer develops a problem it may not be possible to move a license onto a key, but, more to the point, complaining about it goes with the territory. Developers can't expect customers, who have a wide variety of technical skills, to not complain because they don't understand or appreciate the technology. It is a side effect of using an invasive scheme that more people will complain. This is important because I think that it sends a signal to small devs, that is, use C/R, and expect to lose at least some business from complaining. Whether that complaining is completely rational or not is really beside the point.

That said, of course I agree that eLicenser, barring no other problems, is a reasonably nice solution. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that I could move my Arturia licenses to my cubase key. Frankly, it's probably the main reason that I haven't sold my outdated copy of cubase that I really don't use, ever.

Also, it's not quite the same as the serial only scenario as suggested above. Simply, the same serial is the only thing that need be resent, and, frankly, it's a quit a bit easier, trival in fact, to back up a serial to multiple locations. Mine are in several places should I lose them.

does the activation code remain on the e licenser right? its just that i need to keep it plugged in right?

I agree that they're not exactly the same thing, but that's not the point of the comparison. The OP is throwing the license away repeatedly, which would be a problem with or without a dongle. It's true that codes are easier to backup, and in cases with companies other than Arturia, if you lose your license due to unforeseen technical malfunctions, you could be screwed, but in this case they're simply asking that the OP back up their license instead of them generating a new one. So while, generally speaking, the comparison is fatally flawed, that's the reason I made it.

It'll remain there if you move it there, and remain on your hard drive if you don't. If you put it on the USB stick, then all you need to do is leave it plugged in and it'll be no different from how you have it now, except that when you wipe your drive, your license won't go with it. The Arturia link I posted above has a video that shows the transfer process pretty clearly.
