Thanks again ... I'm still waiting for 4+ so this won't affect me, but good to know. Cheers!
Peace,
Andy.

Yeah, I had mentioned this limitation back on the third page in hopes to prevent anyone from making that mistake. I have the original also and was thinking of moving to the 2+ until I realized this. Plugging in a USB keyboard is essential to me. I use it live this way all the time.

...but it's 4x as awesome!soundog5 wrote:As they suggested, I could order an iConnectMIDI4+, but it is more than 2X more than what I need (more than twice as heavy, more than twice as big, and costs more than twice as much!).

can I use connect my PC to my Mac with this and use some of my PC plugins on my MAC?
Does it show up as some sort of VST?
Can we hook up more than one unit? ie.. 2 ios devices to a MAC (or PC)

It sounds like a lot of users will be put off by this.
I wonder if it can be fixed in a firmware update?

I would say yes, it would have made more sense to have 1 usb and 1 midi input as so many people use USB master keyboards now...but the 4+ more than makes up for it....ZenPunkHippy wrote:It sounds like a lot of users will be put off by this.

I think the fact that there are only 2 usb ports, one for IOS or a Computer (with Audio pass through) and one to attached to the 'host computer with main DAW' would limit adding USB keyboards even with a hub as they have specific purposes. I guess you could use a cheap USB to MIDI cable (less than 10 bucks) but for me the 4+ is a far more exiting proposition.
The IOS stuff is interesting and useful, but surely this is the 'network' computing we have all been waiting for- midi and audio over USB from old PC's and laptops turning them in to modules!?

Yeah I'm totally with you on the network MIDI functionality of the 4+. That will be incredibly useful.
Leaving out the USB MIDI capability on the 2+ seems strange because there are so many people who want to connect keyboards with USB only to iPads. This is the main reason I got the original device, but it turned out to be useful for other things too.
Peace,
Andy.

But even this requires a USB host.SLiC wrote:I guess you could use a cheap USB to MIDI cable...
When you think about all of the modern MIDI gear that only works through USB, this is a rather startling omission. Some examples of common MIDI controllers that can't be connected through the iConnectMIDI, unless they're already plugged into an iPad or computer:
- Most small MIDI keyboards; notable exception: Behringer.
- All of the Korg nano controllers (including the very useful fader/knob nanoKontroller)
- All of the Keith McMillen controllers (QuNeo, QuNexus). These can be outfitted with DIN connectors for an additional US$45, but they still need USB power.

FYI, I have worked out a trade for my iConnectMIDI2+ with a guy who has an original unit but really needs iOS features but not USB hosting. Thanks for those of you who inquired. The mistake was mine; I simply assumed the 2+ would support USB MIDI hosting.
Also, I wouldn't count on hosting in the 2+ via a firmware upgrade, given the design of the unit and the presence of only USB B ports. Instead, consider a 4+ unit. All of their devices do everything they are advertised to do, and they do it quite well .... but DO read the online info carefully to make sure you are covered for the features you need.

Their website has had photos and detailed specs of both the 2+ and 4+ for several months. It seemed to me to be perfectly clear that the 2+ does not have host capabilities.
...sorry, not trying to be a dick, but some people are talking like this is some big 'gotcha' that iConnecticity was being mum on, when all it is is a different more limited set of features....

Yep, if the iConnectMIDI2+ is connected to a PC/Mac (which is acting as USB host to connected compliant USB devices such as a nanoKontrol or other controller), you should be able to control your iPad with the controller. The thing that is not supported in the 2+ is doing this without having a PC/Mac in the system. In other words, the 2+ cannot serve as the host; a computing device is required.SLiC wrote:Surely if communication is 2 way you can have your usb controller connected to the PC/MAC usb ports and select the iPAD (MIDI2+) and play it?
