Okay, for listening to Europe Top 20 I usually need 5 bottles beer at least...
No drug problem here then ... :hihi:
Is that's why people drink so much in Yates on a Friday night; to cope with the terrible music?
The drink is what makes them like it. The kids with "different" taste have dropped mdma and gone to a beach party. ;)
That's what i meant, after 5 beers i'll dance to pretty much anyfink but these days people are drinking ridiculous amounts of alcohol and depositing their internal organs on the sidewalk. :hihi:

I guess they won't be writing any groundbreaking albums while under the influence. :hihi:

@Thread OP, i don't know but some people are just built that way. I work best with a clear(ish) head and i gave up all the bad stuff to focus on music and it's the best thing i did. I have tried under the influence and it did not go well!

Just make sure you dont spill any in the process, that is alcohol abuse, and i wont stand for it.

I'm surprised the Grateful Dead haven't been mentioned in this thread.

Probably one of the only places in the U.S. where you could go shop for illegal drugs like making a trip to Walmart was at Dead shows if one happened to be in the area. Never failed.

I once passed by a guy outside the Oakland convention center with a giant salad bowl full of sticky green herb and that was after passing a guy with a nitrous tank who was filing balloons for people. At another show in Oakland we went back to a guy's van and my roommate bought 200 tabs of acid while we watched a little golden retriever named Puppy Chowder play around on the floor amidst clouds of pot smoke.

Probably different in the UK, but usually it was festivals that were like that rather than individual bands.

Glastonbury is one of the biggest, and it's exactly like that, particularly if you head to certain parts of the location where it's held. There are a handful of drug arrests every year, but there's almost no police presence, and I think it's mostly a token effort to appease the people who think they should try.

Plenty of times I would be there and you could buy what you wanted because people would walk around saying out loud "anyone need acid?" or whatever else they were selling.

ha! festivals schmestivals!
just walk through manchester city centre on a saturday afternoon!

not so much out loud and definitely no signs, but you do get offered pretty much most things in hushed tones by complete strangers.

Caribbean islands are the same - been offered cocaine outside of a police station, weed on the beach (multiple times), been upstairs in a head shop and bought weed from the owner.

But yeah, definitely cities in Europe that you just walk down the street and get at least one offer!

Well, I could get pot in the infamous People's Park next to my dorm at UC Berkeley (which I think the university tried to "sanitize" by adding volleyball courts, etc---it's probably a parking lot with a Walmart next to it by now).

Problem was you could also get mugged there. Dead shows were a much safer alternative.

I've had 4 beers and I'm only good for the couch, and shortly thereafter the bed.
The drugs don't work.

It's being young that does the trick ;)
Yeah and sometimes stretching the truth works as well. But, as some artists have pointed out, the life of an individual devoted to perfecting his or her craft does not always seem that romantic so the moments of excess tend to make up a bigger part of many biographies.

I'm sure there are some who might actually think that Charlie Parker was born a junkie and the music just magically came out...
